Painless Wiring W/msd

I am rewiring a 1970 LC bumper to bumper, and adding msd.
I KNOW someone out there has done something similar, so where is the best place to put the new fuse box?
Drivers side?
Passenger side.
Tunnel?
Glove box?
On the roof?


The MSD should fit nicely in the glove box.
I dunno...

Would like a few suggestions.

First off, I think you might have posted to the wrong group. This group is intended for the 70 series Land Cruisers, most of which are diesel. Nevertheless, are you sure you want to go msd? They do fail and when they do you need a whole other box which is pricey. As I recall the toyota 6 is very similar to the chevy 6 and I also recall a few chevy based electronic ignition systems for the toy:

These are somewhat more reliable and have the same advantage of long duration spark, and rely on readily available and cheap chevy parts. I am not just blowing smoke here. I had an msd and it did not offer any advantage to the duraspark system I rigged up. While mine never failed, I have seen them fail. There is no way to know what happened short of no ignition. This is why I love my diesel. In fact it worried me so much I took it off. Its for sale want to buy it?

On the fuse box location. I would put it under the hood, but housed in a pelican box (a sealable box with a nice clasp):

If its under the hood its easy to get at unlike under the dash where you need to be a contortionist to get at it.

This is a customer's LC, so I hope I am not in the wrong section here...I admit it, I am no expert on these vehicles.:whoops:

What I do know is this:

It IS a 1970 Landcruiser. Looks a lot like a Jeep CJ, or Wrangler.

It has a chevy 350 installed.
The wiring is non-existant. As in gone.

The customer supplied a "Painless" harness, and an msd box, so that's what I have to work with.

My main concern is location of the new harness and the MSD box.

For an off road vehicle: An MSD box MUST be mounted on rubber pads or some other cushion or it will, of course, take a beating and fail.

wrong group X2... search in the 40 serie landcruiser (built between 1964 to 1984).

The 70 serie is NOT the year... but the body style.
The 1970 is 40 serie body style.... a FJ40.
