Just got back from our trip with the new 4.88's. Drove to the National park on Padre island and the full length of the beach there. Then on the way back went through San Antonio- Luckenbach- and the rest of the Hill Country via back roads. I got 9MPG on the way down driving into a strong headwind the whole way. Then got 13MPG on the way back through the hills. THe beach trip was nice no hard core wheeling but you did need 4x4 after the 20 mile mark on the beach pretty deep soft sand. We basicaly had the entire beach to our own lil group at 20 miles in. Couldnt see anyone else either way. I drove all the way down the beach to the jetties that seperate North and South Padre only saw two other trucks between the 35 mile mark and the end aprox 70 mile mark. The water was clear and beach was nice skeeters were bad but I brought tiki torches and bug spary that kept them mostly away. The roof top tent was great again, great view, good air circulation up top, and could shower off before getting in so no sand weeee. I did bend the ladder extention though need to fix that before Colorado.

Ah, so it was you I saw heading north on I-37 south of San Antonio! I went down there Monday, guess we just missed each other. Hard to miss that beast on the highway! Beach was in about the best condition I've ever remember. I ran the thing in 2wd, just like usual, it's really over rated for 4x4 unless you get there after a storm.
