Well it did not take too long to get my wife her new FJ, however the dealer was not the best to deal with. I will not go into the long drawn out story, only to say that in the end the cruiser came in with just a few things I ordered not on it, and a few things I did not order on it. So of course the dealer said no problem we can get the tire cover, rear hitch, and alloy shifter knobs for you. I thought great, well at first they wanted to charge me labor to put all that stuff on, then after my telling them what to do with that, they said they would put it on for the cost when I ordered it. Everthing was fine, however they ended up putting on a TRD Billard ball from a taco for the transmission shifter (manual transmission) and no tranfer case shifer replacement. I pointed out the package 2 feature list on the web and my order that clearly states alloy shifter nobs, and after some digging they foudn the part number and now are working to get them. What I have heard from others are the following:

Only available with automatic transmission
Not available yet
mistake on website you can't them
They do not exist

Each one of these statements is one that someone told me when they tried to get the shifter nobs. I will be sure to update everyone once I get them and what the story was.

Here a few shots of my wife's FJ

The aluminum shifters are only available for the automatic tranny. My manual has the rubber shifters and we have Upgrade Package #1. I would return the stupid "ball" (unless you like it) and get the standard rubber ones.

Be careful what you wish for - my Civic Si has the aluminum shifters and they get damn hot in the summer.

Yep, had them take it off (ok, I actually took it off at dealer, service manager did not know how to turn a wrench).

Why do you say only available for Automatic Tranny, is that what they told you? I only ask because usually Toyota would spell that out on feature list, and I have learned not to listen to sales guys at dealer. Just curious.

Cheers,

Michael

Forgot where I saw it. I got mine in early April so it's been a while. There were a bunch of mixed FJCs on the lot, and I inspected them all. Only the auto trannys had the aluminum. All had upgrade packages too.

EDIT: Just checked Toyota's website and they claim the aluminum shifters are available on any 4WD with either upgrade package. Maybe things have changed. Anybody got a manual tranny and aluminum shifters?

I've got the manual with the rubber shifters, too. I also got mine in April and seem to remember aluminum on auto only...

If Toyota doesn't come out with any, then someone will eventually manufacture some soon. I wouldn't sweat over it :D

I am not sweating over it, I just want what I paid for and what they told me I would get. It is the principle of it. The dealer has screwed up so much from the get go, and seems to blame Toyota for everthing, I am making it a point to hold them (the dealer accountable). Frankly I think my wife will end up liking the Black rubber ones better, but it just really bugs me that lack of customer service and the fact that if I did not say anything I would get the Cruiser without and probably without some other stuff I bought that it did not come in with. I know it probably will not cause any positive change in the dealer but I will know I did what I could not to be taken advantage of, and that I honestly tried to help the dealer be a better dealer.

Ok I am off my soap box.

Cheers,

Michael

Lift me onto that soapbox.

When I got my Cruiser there seemed to be a LOT of confusion about the vehicle and it's options (standard or not). This happened at more than one dealership. We knew more about the vehicle than they did. The sales people were flying blind and did not inspire confidence. Our salesman didn't even know how to open the back window. He was fumbling around on the dash looking for a "release". Anyway, I attribute it to being such a new vehicle coupled with dealership laziness. As always, enter the dealership armed to the teeth with knowledge. Make printouts if you have to!

So I finally got an answer on the allow shift levers. Apearently, I was mistaken and what is says on option package 2 is

Aluminum brush transmission lever and transfer lever (transfer lever on 4WD models)

Funny thing, is it has this for option package 1 as well. What I am told is that the lever itself (underneath the boot) is Aluminum Brush. Know if you are like me you are saying what does it matter if I never see it, and does Toyota really put a different shift levers on the truck if I order package one or two verse not getting either package.

I have come to two conclusions either this is a standard marketing ploy, in wich case I really wish Toyota would not do this kind of thing. The second or alternative conclusion is Toyota does not know what it is talking about and told my dealer a bunch of crap again.

Does anyone have some different special Aluminum shifters that came with your truck???

Can Anyone confirm that has package 1 or 2 that the levers are Aluminum (I will be checking my wifes when I get home tonight)??

Thanks,

Michael
