After being away from the Oregon area, I'm headed back that way in a few months. I'm on the look out for a new mountain bike. I currently have a run of the mill GT hard-tail, riding mostly flat single track. For those that ride in the area, what do you guys have? Hard-tail or full suspension?

Bikesdirect.com seems to have some pretty good prices of some nice bikes. Mainly looking at the Motobecan Fantom Pro (both HT and FS). Just need to decide what will benifit me the most there. Any adivice or suggestions would be much appericatied.

Hey Jace,

Glad to have you back in the PNW. I live just south of Portland so when you get to town hit me up. As ar as mtn bikes go you cannot go wrong picking up a full suspension even if you plan on moving out of the state. You will enjoy the ride anywhere that much more when you are comfortable.

Stay away from SS or 29'rs they are just not suited for the riding up here.

As far as bikes go what is your budget? Best bang for your buck out there right now has got to be Giant. My brother rides one and I have to say it was well built and spec'd nicely for what he paid. Not to dis online retailers but the local shops have nice deals and customer support. Plus even with mad bike skills is really nice to have a shop close by that recognizes you and your purchase. They are also a great resource for group rides and local trails.

Post up some links to the bikes you are looking at and we can all give you some input.

Clint
