I got my 3rd gen runner going and boy did I miss this gen. First two tacomas were of the same gen. But I have an overdrive issue. First two days I drove it, it wouldn't shift into od unless I completely let off the gas. Then immediately shift back to 3rd with the slightest hint of throttle. Then I washed it, and now it won't shift in even when off the gas, just stay around 2k at 55mph. At first I leaned towards it being tps. But I have no check engine lights. Judging by the temp gauge it is running cold from what I remember, been about 3 years now since I had a 1st gen taco. Basically, no od, no cel. Gonna run to town tomorrow and get a new thermostat, change all the fluids and filters. See what that does. If nothing, adjust the tps and shift linkage that isnt quite right. If that doesnt work, I guess its solenoid or valve body. I have a spare a340 out of a 1st gen prerunner that was perfect when pulled. If need be, can I pull the parts out of it and swap? Got a big fishing tournament coming up Wednesday I need this truck for on Wednesday. Be nice to have od for the already 2.5 hour drive and 60 mile long beach

Sounds electrical if it changed after you washed it.
That and the coil issue you were having makes it look like you might want to give the wiring harness and connections a very good inspection.

I dont want to day what the coil issue was...lol. It was an aftermarket alarm issue and I hadn't plugged one connection all the way back in. Went through the harness then in the engine bay and interior. I went though all my plugs and sprayed them with cleaner and made sure they were connected fully underneath today. Didnt see any issues when I traced the harness back also. Changed the fluid this morning. Gonna change it again tomorrow and change the filter then. Looked pretty burnt but not milkshake thankfully. So do a little more flushing of it all. Thermostat has been changed, still runs cold. But even after I let it sit for an hour the temp hasn't dropped at all. So gonna get a temp sending unit tomorrow. Attaching a pic of what it runs at and stays at even after sitting for an hour. Really appreciate the help. Damn wires are making me really miss my 22r I just killed. New motor is on its way though.

At least the coils was an easy fix. :)

My temp gauge sits horizontal when it's running.

Sorry I'm not more helpful, I don't have much experience with the automatic trans.

I was pretty sure it day at horizontal from my 2 1st gen tacos. Been 3 years though, also the last time I had an auto. Got a spare r151 sitting here, but that is for the 2nd gen runner with a cut back. Appreciate the help. It is a very temp dd. Picking up a very low mile 1st gen tundy after this tourney.
