While we had hoped to join the Landtank expo west we couldn't manage 2 long trips this year.
We have to drive to Nashville in early May and pick up Ian. From there we go to Augusta Ga, Savannah then up to NC and the Outer Banks.
So, we have never been before, need ideas on must do, must see things. We will be camping along the way and will have 5 days to spend there.
Bette is a foodie so any good placed to eat? Diners, crab shacks, real places we should schedule in?

A good friend lives near the outter banks. I'll email her tonight to see what she suggests. I have heard/read that it's beautiful. I haven't been able to make it down yet.

I head down to OBX to kite board when I can. if you are coming from the south take the ferry to Oakacroke kewl little jimmy buffet style town alot like key west or Edgartown with unbelievable seafood. all the charter guys pull into the docks and you see it unloaded right there .
that island is about 18 miles long and you can camp on the beach a really keal camp arrea. the ocean side has major rips so if you swim swim in pairs the sound side while flat is realtively shallow you can be in waist deep sandy water 3 miles from shore.
you can drive on the beaches for the most part just bring a compressor or air tank if you get stuck the monster truck that comes to pull you out will charge you 150 . its worth it to go up the light house and explore the area around the Hatteras Light house. we never have a bad meal in Avon at Mac Daddy's Seafood grill and Raw bar. great food. Kitty hawk is a bit commercial for my tastes but that is at the top of the banks anyway. I really like the rustic-ness of Oakacroke <p>
