We saw a post from a local rescue, AZ Desert Rotties, that this guy was in danger of being PTS at the pound in Nogales, and they wanted to pull him but needed a foster. We'd never fostered before and thought we'd give it a try, only to fail miserably as after a couple days we knew he wasn't going anywhere. Seamus appears to have had a pretty tough life, his rib-cage is deformed and he has flat feet, a sign of poor nutrition as a pup. He needed to have several teeth pulled as well as some weight added to his frame. He is now house-broken (more or less) and is learning to walk on leash and develop some social skills-not bad for a 7 year old. Like Splitshot's new lab, he has blended in with his brother and sister like he's been here forever.

Way to go Rex!

Good looking rottie. Kudos for taking in the undesirable, all pets deserve a good home.

Seamus had a visit to the vet and he has both heart-worm and tick fever. You'd never know it by the way he acts (he's gone from being lethargic and reserved to acting like a puppy) so we're pretty happy about that. The vet says both are prevalent in Santa Cruz county. I'm kind of surprised that the rescue didn't have him tested given where he was from, but fortunately both are treatable with a couple drugs, so we have started the 6 pills-a-day regimen, good thing he likes peanut butter...
