Georg-I want a nose cone saver for my future Orion.:hillbilly:

Can I get it from you at SNT?

Hello all,

I normally am just a browser, but i am considering an Orion or Orion HD, so i thought i would jump in ....

Is the poping out still an issue? I thought they had it resolved in the Orion, so i figured the HD would be fixed as well. I am considering either the Orion or the HD, as I saw that the HD is now $2000 on AA website. Doesn't the HD already come with the correct 32 spline flanges? All the pictures i have seen have drive flanges on them...was hoping (nay, praying) that my drive shafts would just bolt right up....

I do not believe that there are still issues with these cases not staying in gear.

If you are going to run the OrionHD, what are your plans for:

Parking brake, as there is not provisions with the HD unit for the Land Cruiser drum parking brake on the back of the Orion.

Speedometer drive; the only speedometer configuration is for an electrical unit, not a mechanical drive.

Well, as far as the speedo goes, i don't have mine hooked up right now anyways...i never did get it adjusted after i went to 36" tires...I just keep up with those around me when driving...;)

As for the parking brake, this is the only thing that is keeping me from jumping right to the HD. I do like having a parking brake and am not sure I want to give it up.

What i like, is that the HD is fully assembled, as I have never torn into a Tcase before....

While the 32 splines would be awesome, i just haven't hear of many folks tearing up LC outputs (i know, someone will jump in on that statement...:)

So, as you can tell, I am not sure which side of the fence i will land on ......guess i need to research a bit more....If only AA hadn't dropped the price of the HD!

Well, after a few hours research, I think i am going to go with the Orion (not the HD). I really like having a parking brake, and don't want to give it up, or spend extra to get it back. Also, it appears that you don't get the flanges with the HD (i haven't talked to AA about it though, so my research may be incorrect).

I read some where about someone having made a "nose cone" saver....i will have to look it up as i will be reusing my stock Tcase parts...looks like i need to learn how to build a Tcase....

Thanks everyone who posted this great info on Orion/Orion HD.

Cheers!

i make the nose cone savers but they're not essential on the orion. can't hurt though. if you're interested in one, please send me a pm and i'll send one out to you.
thanks a lot!

aa has them on sale right now for $2k. not much of a discount available for us resellers. that price includes the twin stick shifters and the fully assembled t-case. you still have to buy drive flanges though, usually to the tune of $110-140 each depending on which supplier you get them from.

Are the twin sticks that come with the HD the same twin stick kit that's been around, or are they something specific to the HD? Also, I've got an Autometer electric speedometer. Would I need anything else to use it with the electric output on the HD? I am not familiar with the VSS lingo.

i just finished another orion, #430, for a friend/customer. we're calling it the "bumble Bee" for obvious reasons.
this one will be in an fj40 with a small block and th350 trans. so it's got the special AA front output flange. i also installed a better breather vent setup as well as all stainless hardware and one of my nose-cone-savers. we used a 4spd nose cone on this one as well. i just jope he really does paint the cruiser yellow..........LOL

Nice!!!!!!
Doe's that color combo keep it from popping out of gear. LOL

That's a little too purdy. I'd be afraid to get it dirty. ;)
