Subject: Please read below from WOHVA.COM Please write a letter. OHV users in general got slighted at yesterdays State Trails Council meeting
I attended the State Trails Council meeting today in Madison. WOHVA members need to know the outcome.
Senator Jim Holperin, Democrat representing the 12th Senate District http://www.legis.state.wi.us//Senate/sen12/Sdist12.pdf undercut the work done by the Ad Hoc Committee to the Governor's State Trails Council by ramroding Mr Lindor "Skip" Maletzke's appointment to the STC as the "Tourism" representative. Mr Maletzke is a businessman in the Mountain area. He runs a horse ranch and riding stable that is located near the CNNF and its horse riding trails.
Senator Holperin pushed this appointment thru with blatant disregard to the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee (Which the State Trails Council approved) to ensure that the recommendation that the vacant seat be filled with a Motorized Representative that represents the 4x4 community would not happen. Holperin's actions effectively caused the action plan for overhaul of the STC to stop, because there will be no renewals or vacancies on the council scheduled until July of 2011.
During the public comment period of the meeting, I told the Council that as a member of the Ad Hoc Committee I was appalled that the STC just lied down and accepted Holperien's end run of the process that was designed to strengthen the STC. I also said that I was disappointed that the STC is acknowledging Mr Maletzke's appointment and seat since it is contrary to the recommendation. I also asked that Mr Maletzke and those recently re-appointed Council Members resign their posts immediately to faciltiate the re-structuring of the State Trails Council as recommended by the AHC and approved by the Council.
Time for action. Anyone in the 12th Senate district needs to write a letter to Senator Holperin stating that his misuse of the process did not go unnoticed by you, his constituent, and that you will hold that against him in the upcoming election. Anyone NOT in the 12th Senate District needs to write a similar letter to Senator Holperin, and tell him that your time and energy will be spent helping whomever is running against him. Additionally, out-of-district folks need to write to YOUR senator and let them know that the actions of their colleague Holperin are contrary to progress in Wisconsin, and that you expect your senator to support future efforts to upgrade the State Trails Council to accurately represent the recreational users in Wisconsin.

This is from Ken Linzmeyer, WOHVA Land Use Coordinator and member of the State Trails Council Ad Hoc committee. This has been a multiple year effort to get organized 4x4 enthusiasts a seat on the STC. Please communicate with Holperin and all WI legislators and voice your opinion on this action. If you would like more history please let me know.
