Rob, this week is a wash for me as I'm preparing to get mine ready to go to Field & Forrest, but I might have some time next week.

No problem. I was just putting it out there. I travel a lot for work and not always here during the week. Weekends are usually good. I'm either working on the yard, house or 40. Its a vicious cycle. :D

Here is the winch mount installed. I should back it out in the driveway to get a better lit picture.

I had a HA-Yuuuge day today!

Took off my Holley carb yesterday and decided to rebuild the thing with new gaskets. Disassembeled it into its pieces and soaked it in my carb cleaner bucket for a few hours, soaked it in some water/soap and blew all of the passage ways clear.

I bought the Holley Trick Kit from AZ since Cap didnt have anything and they werent sure they'd have anything until Monday when they could call their parts people in the warehouse.

The kit is fantastic for 4bbls, but this is only 1/2 of that. Thankfully the engineers at Holley, when they designed the 2300 series is they literally took a 650cfm and deleted the back half.

I did however have to reuse the gasket that mated the upper and lower halves. Mine was in fine shape, so no big deal.

After fiddling with it so much in the past it was easy to set it to basic factory settings by hand.

Turned on the fuel pump, took a calming breath and turned the key.

Vrooom! No real adjustments needed. Pulled 17-18mmHg steadily at idle (I think I have a little leak where the vac gauge plugs into the intake) and the vac gauge did everything it was supposed to in order to indicate a good running engine.

The damn thing idles soo smooth now. After taking it apart I can see where Downey probably made their modifications. Nothing a coiled length of hose and a cheap inline fuel filter (like you'd use to extend the breather lines on your axles) couldnt fix to keep the fuel from spilling out of the bowl into the intake.

Tomorrow I'll shake out a bug or two, but a 100% improvement from before.

I only have a few other small things to do at this point.

NIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!!!!! Glad it worked out!!!

Thanks. I'm really just trying to get it inspectable. I need to see how to hook up the fan switch, I'm missing the resistor. My front driver's wheel cylinder is leaking, havent pulled the tire to see which one yet so I'm power bleeding them as I drive at this point.

My RMS is leaking. I should have left good enough alone and not f'ed with it.

Since I am using the round tail lights with a 78 harness, I cant get my hazards to work correctly.

That's awesome Rob. You'd be surprised how much energy you can get when you make it over big hurdles!

Yep.

I removed my 2nd alternator and installed it back into its stock position and no more squealing from the ps pump (Whole belt debacle deal...) I'm going to put my mini ps pump there and use it to run my winch. Lucky for me, which is VERY rare with this rig, one of the adaptors fit the pump so no extra $ there plumbing it. I know a guy that can sell me a new plow pump for $75, but for now I want to get it usable.

Its the black wire / yellow stripe I hook to the IG position on the alt, so thats where I'm off to now.

Yesterday was interesting. It started out driving the cruiser up to the local garage for an inspection. Figured I'd roll the dice and see if it would pass as-is, or at least find out what wouldnt pass. By the time I got there, I saw that I was running a little warm. I figured, no reason to leave it here, so I turned around and drove back home. Had to stop at the local lake about a mile from home because I started to smell antifreeze. I knew it couldnt have been the cooling system since it was all about two years old with pretty much no miles on it.

After I lifted the hood I saw what I had done. When I removed the 2nd alternator I forgot that I had installed it so it would be the tensioner for the water pump.

No harm done as far as I can tell.

In order for me to use the water pump, which is kind of important, I had to install my mini truck ps pump yesterday. Much like everything else, I could have just rigged something up, but instead I took longer than usual to engineer it so that it would be easier to service down the road. It turned out ok. I'm not 100% happy with it, but I'd say 90%.

I was putting off installing the pump since it was going to run the winch and not necessary at this point in the build, but now its kind of important.

Tomorrow I will be setting up the remote reservoir. Have to fab up a bracket to hold it next to the FJ60 pump. I cant decide whether or not to share the reservoir systems. I'm thinking its a good idea since the steering is set up with a cooler, and I can double the volume of fluid. Those are both good for winching. Once the fluid gets hot, the winch will stall. I guess after spelling this all out, I think Im going to go that route. I think if the ps pump fails soon, I'm going to go the plow pump route.
