On a side note. As I said before I’m putting my H42/split case in the Powda Blue project so when Georg was putting my pallet together he gave me a FJ40 H42 top cover to add to my 60 case so when I install it in the FJ40 my shifter hole will line up correctly. It’s the little stuff like that that keeps me a Valley Hybrids homer.

I am going to have to put the final touches on this one over the next few weeks as parts roll in.

I had a good CV front shaft that came out of my H55 FJ55 (Warthog) so I can move it.

@Ozark cruiser and @USMC22 bullied me into ordering RCV shafts for the front so I’ll swap 3rds and replace the original axles and Birfs and not be scared to use the locker.

Also just ordered a new rear Tom Woods shaft today. That place is awesome. They will make it and ship it tomorrow for $400. Crazy.

What u-joints do they use?

Their standard get it to me now shafts are Spicer 1310 but they will do whatever you want to pay for. I’ve had good luck so far with the 1310 stuff

They have a decent selection of high quality joints. I've been a woody user for a bunch of years now, highly recommend using them.

RCVs land today so I tore the old Birfs out. I doubt I have 10,000 miles on this rebuild and was shocked to see water had gotten into the passenger knuckle.

Then I remember the tire shop broke a lug and “fixed” it. A place I trust so I did not back check. No seals. Just RTV that did not work. Clowns.

Man. I’m stuck. Started on the long side. RCV slipped in nice and easy. I packed the knuckle and got it in the side gears but it won’t go the last 1/4”

What’s worse, I can’t get it out to confirm the inner shaft size.

I’m going to tackle it again in the morning. That’s a real head scratcher.

New axle into new bearings and new gears? How about a love tap with a dead blow? I had a similar issue on my rear end. After weeks of chasing it a gentile tap was all it needed. But maybe double check everything first.

Well I went from gentle taps to using my spindle as a slide hammer. Since I can’t get it to come out it’s gotta go in. 1/4” more. It’s fully in the side gear. I can see it and turning it turns the passenger side. It’s just dead stopped.

I’m wailing on it more in the morning

any issue with the other side?

Nope. Fit perfect. Spins when I spin the drivers side. Came out easy so I can look into make sure I did not leave a 10mm socket in there.

Edit. I pulled that last bit with the spindle bolts. Not sure why my brain did not wrap around that last night but it’s a fresh day.

New locker, new coated shafts, everything nice and snug the way it should be

Buttoned up both sides of the axle and moved on to some new rod ends.

I think I’m going to go ahead and get Redhead to rebuild my steering box while all this is apart. It seeps.

Anyone know the Gates part number for the hard power steering line? @Racer65 used to list it next to his ps pumps but he’s not selling those anymore it seems.

EDELMANN 71210 is the mfg

Make sure the heat shield comes with it. Some do, some don't. Don't know why.

Put a microfine transmission oil filter in the return line and PS pump will last forever.

Something like this?

Any will work, but I like the Microfine because it has cooling fins... Do the fins work? Who knows ?

Lemme see if I can get some part numbers...
