wngrog, Great rig, fantastic thread. Thank you for the detailed writeup.
I will use this thread when I rebuild my 2F, and hopefully add FI,for my 60.

I emailed AFI and got this response.

Thank you for writing. We currently do not have an EO certification for our kits. We did some years ago but the cost of maintain it was to much for the business we had. How ever, our new optimum kit does have plans to be emissions certified. You are looking at about a year on that certification to happen.

So there is hope.
Maybe if all the CA folks let them know we're interested they'll keep it up.

FWIW, Howell has a few Jeep TBI kits CARB approved. They may have to sell quite a few for it to pay off.

@Racer65 again for the win

New reproduction FJ60 upper and lower weatherstripping

Both mine looked good but there was a rattle in the lift gate I could not get rid of.

These strips snap in with new clips that are attached to the new pieces.

No rattle now. Thanks Roger.

Also accidentally bought another OEM Jerry can. My 60 deserves it.

@Racer65 is a great source for 40 and 60 series parts. I've made several buys on his site. Good to see companies still out there making high quality, well thought out parts for the 60 series. That rear gate rubber is on my list eventually too - I've been replacing as many rubber door, window and hatch seals on the 60 & 80 lately while they are either still available from Toyota or these high quality aftermarket. Figure, get it while its still available!

Completely agree... I am going to be putting in an order for his outer felts shortly here. Figure mine are probably pretty toast so might as well replace while I am in the process of replacing two doors anyways. Jason (@reevesci ) also offers high quality rubbers (LOL), grabbed his tailgate surround and will grab some others from him too as stuff progresses.

Couple of housekeeping items to go along with the new Boss Airbags.

Last trip out I had a slight oil leak. I ran it down to oil Cooler.

When I put the new motor in I got the “just send me what I need @beno package”

In the end I had a couple of O-Rings left over. Turns out they were fit my oil cooler. Turns out there is a reason he sent them.

Easy job. I had just driven the truck so all the oil had not drained out so I lost about 1/3 quart.

Remove cooler. Keep the coolant lines attached.

With the engine side facing up, use a pick and pull the smashed flat old ORings out of the cooler.

With some time I was able to relocate the MAP sensor even closer to the fuel injection.

Oriented properly, this was as far as the harness would allow but it took 12” out of the vacuum line and eliminated any chance of a dip or pool.

Loading it up for a trip to West Arkansas next week.

Just got back from a 700 mile trip.

The Boss airbags were absolutely superb. A++ modification

The truck got the same 12mpg with the proper MAP sensor location. We were hoping maybe locating it properly would bump the mileage.

Nope.

The truck ran perfectly until about mile 500 when I started loosing some top end. It felt like my problem with the O2 from the last trip. At about 20% loss versus 80% without tripping a code.

We pulled out for gas and I swapped in a new O2 sensor and boom. Fixed.

So, what is killing my O2 sensors?

Next time it fries I’d try running a 4 wire sensor -the 4th wire is a dedicated ground. If your efi unit doesn’t have a harness for it, connect the 4th wire directly to a clean chassis ground.

Currently the sensor is grounding itself through the exhaust system, which might be a struggle for it.

How about test-running with an anti-fouler, as I suggested earlier? You can always remove the anti-fouler if the truck doesn't run right, and it's a $10 experiment.
