Well, not that old, but early 20th century. Started down a historical rabbit hole of reading the history of the area that many of us head to escape the asphalt here. Really interesting stuff when locations that I am somewhat familiar with are mentioned in accounts from the lumberjacks and railroad workers of the period, or major areas of interest then that are nothing but an obscure reference today (Sunburst for example). I wandered onto what is left of old Hwy 284 years ago and want to go back sometime with a little more intentional time. It goes through the Cataloochee area, so at least some elk and bear watching is in order.

Anyone else?

I have hiked and fished the area for the last 40 years and love exploring up there.
