Wifes 93 FZJ80 with a TRD Supercharger is having some issues. Radiator is full of chocolate milk shake as well as the overflow bottle. She has had to add two qts of oil in the last few days. Again, not using coolant but gaining it instead.
From my searches it sounds like it might be the oil cooler. I pulled the plugs and did a compression test. Cold engine #'s were all 170-180 and all plugs look good. So.... Can anyone point me in the right direction to bypass this cooler as a diagnostic test?
Daryl, I would pull the hoses on the cooler and put plugs in them or connect them together with a piece of copper(anything to keep the water from coming out of them when running). Run the engine. Nothing should come out of the hose connections of the cooler. If oil starts coming out of the cooler then there is your problem. Good luck.
Daryl, Stop Stop Stop It is the Head Gasket I will give yo 50 bucks for the whole pile of s***. LOL you need a head job. It is possible that it is the oil cooler but dont see that very often as a matter a fact have never seen it.
Don't think it is the HG but still gotta pull the supercharger, exhaust, radiator, etc. Figure I might as well change the HG anyway as it's just a few more bolts. No time to fool with it right now so it just has to sit in the shop till I do.
take off the oil fill cap on the valve cover and look inside the cap tell me what you see. If that is also milky brown most likely a HG but if that is black then maybe just the oil mixing. normally the head gaskets go on #6 and the coolant starts to polish up the piston. you can look down the spark plug hole and see if the top of the piston is real clean that is a tell tail sign.
Six had 180 psi and the plug looked normal ( chalky brown dry apperance) as did the other five. It could be the HG but it would be unlike any other I have seen. In any case, I'll know in a week or two when I get time to tear it down. For now Sherry has taken over my 80 and I'm back in the Dodge dually.
Got a little patching to do on half ass so I can take it up to Hot Springs for thr Razorback Ramble next weekend. After that, only a couple of weeks to get ready for our Moab trip. Gonna have to buckle down...
