I just did my first oil change at 2K.

The cap to the oil filler pipe had some gnarly looking gunk in it. Kind of beige colored.......looked like an oil capuccino froth. I cleaned it out, but am wondering what the heck it was, and if anyone else has it under their oil filler cap. Resembled that expanding foam you use to insulate in cracks.

Getting the plastic access cover off the undercarriage was a pain in the tail, but once I figured out how it was held, should be easy in the future. Made tougher by the fact that I had to crawl under the rig since there wasn't enough room for the creeper.

That PITA was balance by the location of the filter, which is very accessable. Thanks, toyota.

That milky froth usually means water in the oil.

Icky. I did a change at 4k miles and it had none of that.

Did the oil you drained look similar, or have a hot chocolate look to it? Is the coolant level constant? Are you blowing white smoke?

It was a little tough to be certain, but I thought the oil looked a little dirtier or darker than I would have expected after only 2K. The FJ only gets driven sparingly, and most of the trips are very short.....say under 2-3 miles.

There's no white smoke or anything that seems at all wrong with the vehicle, other than the brake squeal when backing up.

That is why, you are barely getting the engine warm. You need to get the crankcase and oil sump fully hot on a regular basis to vaporize the condensed water. Trips that short are very hard on an engine and exhaust system. If you can't make longer trips then you need to change your oil much more often.

If you take your fj offroad you wont have to worry about taking the drain cover off. Brush or rocks will take it off for you:)
