Hey guys, I am looking to collect as many real-life experiences as I can because I can't seem to find any on this. There are other threads talking about rig insurance which ends up just saying not to expect coverage once you go off-road. I saw that State Farm were giving some people in writing that off-road use would be covered. I had a different experience with them.

Questions: Ever had a claim denied because you were “off-road”? Stuck paying for recovery? Got lowballed after a theft or total loss?

Here’s what I’ve found so far on a fully built 200 series overland rig:

🔹 Progressive: Told me rock crawling could be considered “stunting” and denied under their policy. Also, recovery is only covered if you’re within 100 feet of a road or highway—basically useless for real off-roading.

🔹 State Farm: No clear exclusions of off-road use, but also no clear coverage. Their underwriters admitted it’s a gray area, and claims are handled case by case. No guarantees, they recommended me not use the truck off public roads. They wouldn't give me anything in writing excluding off-road use.

Insurance companies love the fine print, but off-roaders deserve to know where they really stand. If you’ve had a denied claim, an uncovered recovery, or a theft payout that didn’t come close to your rig’s real value—drop your story in the comments or DM me. Greatly appreciated.
