Is there a general consensus among the group about factory vs aftermarket brake pads and rotors? Seemed to be a mixed bag of opinions when I owned by LX470 and I couldn’t find a whole lot doing a forum search.

If factory pads/rotors is the way to go, what’s the best/cheapest way to purchase?

The times that I’ve used Toyota oem brake pads…I’ve had problems with warped rotors at 10k miles…this happened 3 times on my Lexus LS460 and GX470.

I then switched to akebono ceramic pads and the warping went away. My pads last over 30k miles now.

I just get whatever solid rotors are on sale as long as they have some type of anti corrosion layer to avoid signs of surface rust even here in mild SoCal

Agreed 100%, excellent advice. Akebono pads are sweet, and I’ve run centric rotors with no issues and recently changed to a set of EBC I found on sale, they both work great.

I'm a fan of EBC Green pads. They will throw you through the windshield.

For a basic stock, non-lifted rig, I've had really good luck with Bosch pads and rotors. This includes my GX and on other vehicles like Subarus that I've owned in the past. Bosch pads and rotors are inexpensive on Rock Auto. I currently have over 50K on the Bosch rotors on my GX. They are getting a little thin but have never warped. The rig has been on two wheeling trips to CO and we've driven thousands of miles towing a camper. For low-cost rotors, they are the way to go, IMO.

But, my Bosch pads didn't stop quite as well once I upgraded to 33s, so that is why I upgraded to EBCs (and kept the Bosch rotors).

I have run both oem and brembo blank rotors, both are equivalent quality. I have run EBC brakes since last summer. I prefer the ED+ pads. I glazed a set of green stuff on my 460. They have been fine on our 5th gen 4runner, which is more gently driven.
