Going to the Turf & Surf's had become a family tradition before the panicdemic and dune closures put an end to it. However, it appears there might be a light at the end yet...

**** yeah!

Just saw that headline a bit ago as well, great news! Every little victory is a win💪🏻

The short story is the dunes were closed with justification being a need to reduce the dust overflow into the community. Then, when dust was again measured, it did not go down as expected suggesting the activity was not the cause. The Friends of the Dunes got an injuction on the limitations. Of course green groups piled on which just convoluted the issues as the judge correctly noted. So, hopefull they are reopened for good, or at least for now.

Those dunes are scary! Between the drunk yahoos and the shifting sands, I'm not sure I'd go back. I really don't want a 15 year old kid flying around on a quad to go straight into my front bumper, and I feel like that is a real risk out there. Plus I almost killed my wife out there the first time I went, being a bonehead and almost driving down into a huge sand hole that I could not see over my hood. It turns out that just driving forward slowly is not a good way to find out what's in front when you can't see ahead. My bad. Good times, sort of.
I did almost roll my rig there once, and a really nice group of guys in Tacomas came over and helped me out with a tug. So, they're not all drunk yahoos, to be sure.

Frank, recalling 2016, quietly leaves the chat....

In all seriousness. There is risk in the dunes. I did roll out there. However, a good system can really mitigate them. Go with a group. Strategize your plan of attack getting from one section to the next. If you can't see how steep, drive around and check it out, if Ok go back and for it. Rest assured, when you are in a truck, you are amongst the biggest things out there so all except for the truly Dawrin bound will be looking out for you to avoid hitting you. Same is true on road.
