A handful of us went to Frisco Campground last November. The weather was perfect and the campground was relatively empty. Doing it again this year.

Loop D is in a little hole, well protected by trees and dunes. If you think you want to go, grab your spot now before someone else does. Recreation.gov allows you to cancel reservations up until the last minute for a $10 fee

Make your reservation: Frisco Campground (select any spot on Loop D or adjacent)
Address: 53415 Billy Mitchell Rd, Frisco, NC 27936
Dates: November 14-16
  • You'll need a Cape Hatteras ORV Permit if you plan to drive on the beach
  • Propane fire pits are allowed; no wood burning
  • No planned meals; so bring your own food
Campsites:
D001 available as of 09/15
D002 @neslrac
D003 @jamesurq
D004 @UZJ105
D005 @scj
D006 @Huevo450
D007 @SeanLX
D008 @mcurry
D009 Brian Rayford (Toyota Overlanders)
D010 @Green Hell Mustang

I'm in, I will grab D002 since I've used that site for my last two trips.

Do we know who booked D007? Bond? James Bond?

Spots are filling up. Book now if you want to be on Loop D, or adjacent Loop E and P spots.

I'm in. I reserved D010.

It's been a minute since I've been out to Hatteras.

Loop D is almost completely booked up aside from D001. Plenty of adjacent spots on Loop P (Billy Michell Rd) and Loop E. There are paths in the dunes that go from spots E001 and E003 down to Loop D campsites.

Travel question. @UZJ105 how did you guys get there last year? Did you come in on 12? or did you guys use the ferry?

The ferry is definitely the longest route by far. You would have to drive 3:20hrs from Raleigh to Cedar Island > then take a 2:40hr ferry to Ocracoke >then a 1hr ferry to Hatteras Island.

I am working to be there. I am fishing in Hatteras from the 16th to the 23rd and this would add a few days at the beginning. Thank you for the heads up. Sounds fun. I am ready to catch some fish!
