Gateway Cruisers,

Here are some photo links courtesty of Toyminator and a local Jeep Group. Of couse, as in most photo essays, some of the shots are probably some of the more extreme/cool stuff. The best we can do is go check it out.

I'm thinking of an recon excursion either the 24th or 25th of Nov. The park is located close to farmington.

Washita does have website, however, it's not fully developed yet. Basically, it contains directions to the park.

Thanks Toyminator.

I just copied and pasted from the PM, I'm not sure why they went haywire.

Toyminator,
Where's the pics of your rig? I was hoping to see another Toyota at the park. I wheel with Midwest Jeep Thing fairly often. I know most of those guys that you had pics of there. Unfortunately, I work on Saturdays from 8-2 at the dealership so I couldn't attend that run last weekend. I was there a couple of weeks ago with a lot of the same people helping them cut trails. I won't be able to go the weekend after Thanksgiving either as I'll be in Hannibal actually working on my truck. Mostly some maintenance stuff but I'll be doing a little work on the exhaust, as well as removing the ABS from the truck. Anyway, if anyone would happen to want to go down the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I'll be off that day as well. Just let me know.

Josh

I wasnt' there either. The links were to the Mid Rivers Jeep things website forum. wfd wanted to see what the terrain looke like at the park and their website isn't so happening yet. I will be there on the 24th or 25th if others go.

That's cool. I wish I could go that weekend but that's just a bad weekend. I'm sure others will be out of town as well. I think you'll LOVE the park though. Your rig looks like it's still small enough to fit through most places. The trails are cut kinda tight, especially for bigger-bodied rigs. They're definitely set up for the shorter wheelbase vehicles like Jeeps. It's an awesome place though and it's only gonna get better.

Like I said, if you or anyone else would wanna go down the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, just let me know.

Sunday Nov. 25th is the recon to Waschita. Since the park is closer than Flat Nasty, I'm leaning towards a late morning start from Washington. (9-10) which would be us in Farmington before lunch. We will be running on CB 15. PM your cell or info if you would like to meet.

I have room for 1 or 2, for those who don't have enough armor yet.

Having been there before, I'd HIGHLY recommend getting there earlier than that. It gets dark very early now and I can assure you that you DO NOT want to be out in the park after dark, ESPECIALLY if you've never been there. The park is HUGE and the trails are new. It's not always very easy to really even tell where the trail is. Most, if not all, of the trails are cut fairly tight, weaving in and out of the trees. When we cut the trails, we were trying to cut down as few mature trees as possible. That makes for quite a bit of technical driving through the woods. Sometimes you'll come out of a patch of trees and into an open field full of rocks and boulders. Then you just have to take a look and see where the minimal opening is on the other side of the "field". It's a really great place but it's still very new and not very "worn in" at all. It took us literally half a day to get back in to the overlook (which is someplace that you definitely want to go) and then another half day to get back out. You can see the huge rock face from the parking lot but it takes quite awhile to get back to it. Anyway, with as short as the days are now, if you get there at noon or slightly before, you're not gonna have much daylight left to actually wheel. I just thought I'd mention it and try to help you guys have a nice time down there and not have to rush.

Jester,

I wasn't planning on this being a see the whole park type trip. It's simply a recon trip to see whats there.

When I go to a new theme park for the first time, I don't rush all over the park trying to ride on every ride. It's nice to have something to go back to. I've spent the entire day at Flat Nasty 2 times now and still haven't seen everything. Thanks for your concern. As far as the after dark comment, I think that only applies if in certain parts of the city. Being from the country, I don't get too worried about being out in the woods after dark.

OOOk, whatever you say. There's little to no marking of the trail. Oh, the comment about being from the country...that's a good one. Just because I live in St. Louis now doesn't mean that I grew up here. The whole thing about being out in the woods at dark was based on the "trail" being a bit difficult to pick up on. You'll find out the hard way though. Have fun.

WFD, who else do you have going with you? I'm stuck in KC at the in-laws until late Sunday night (we won't even head back until around 2-3 pm).

Let me know how it goes, I'm still up for one more long trip this year before Christmas. I was planning on another run at FN as I've only been there three times and never seem to have enough time to see/do everything.

Have fun!

Exo-Required.

FYI B&D Brian went down there on Saturday and called me immediately afterwards. He said there is no way to avoid body damage, upper and lower, even on the intermediate trails he was on. Because of the rocks.

For those of us who have seen him in action, if Brian says don't come you'll screw up your rig, that's good enough for me. I guess we will have to wait until some more non-exo rated trails are blazed.

Brian, thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I'm out :D.

I've seen what Brian is willing to do, so there is no need for me to venture there.

I'm still working on a date between Dec 25th and Jan 1 that will work for a trip - but it looks like FN will be the destination.

I'm leaning toward Dec 27th or 28th right now, but waiting to see what happens with my schedule.

I wouldn't say it's THAT bad. I mean, obviously, armor is a nice thing to have. However, for the "recon" trip that you were talking about, I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary. The main loop is now wide enough for Hummers so you guys should be fine to just take a quick spin around. I'm not as wide as a Cruiser but I'm easily as long, even with the bob. You're really missing out if you don't get down to check out the park in some way, shape, or form.
