I purchased my '06 Limited with 54,000km and full warranty 18 months ago. When I bought it I noticed that there was a lot of engine noise in the cab. Toyota replaced the left side exhaust manifold under warranty just this week. The problem all the time was a $34 part. There is an insulating boot around the steering shaft through the firewall, which had completely disintegrated. I had been running the truck on premium since I bought it to try and get rid of the noise.
Apparently this is a growing problem as these trucks start to get older. Info for those out there with a similar issue.

Thanks for posting up this item
Maybe I better get some sort of conditioner on it if it's not too late.

Bringing up an old thread. I have an ‘05 LX and something is visibly (and audibly) rubbing against the second portion of that firewall boot (the middle section as it goes from narrow to wider by the firewall.) The truck was in Alabama heat for 15 years. Is this a greasing issue, boot replacement or something else? Txs for any info.
