I have had this noise for a while. It sounds like metal clanking together. I can only hear it while moving, with the windows up. It occurs both driving forward and turning. It is on the passenger side of the car. I do not believe it is the bifrield. I have rebuilt the entire front axle and replaced all wheel bearings since it first started. The birfield was rebuilt and looks fine.

I have no idea what it could be, it almost seems like it coming from my HQ sliders. It is coming from the side with the cat protection, and maybe something is rubbing together?

The fact I can hear it only with the windows up leads me to believe it is coming from something that is connected with the body, and there for resonating through the floor board. Does this make any sense?

What about my driveshafts and U-joints?

Where is this damn sound coming from? Please help.

Have you checked the catalytic comverter itself to see if it's rattling? The core inside can become damaged and will sound pretty bad.

Also check your exhaust mounts and shock mounts.

Does the sound happen when you are applying torque, when coasting or both?

It pretty much happens with I am accelerating and coasting. The wierd thing is, you cannot hear the sound outside the car really. Only inside, which leads to what I said earlier, that it is something connected to the body that is resonating or something. How would I check the cat for problems?

If the noise happens when you accelerate or decelerate then the noise might have to do with the motor or drivetrain moving.

If the noise happens when going over a bump then the sliders could be touching the body or exhaust. Check the gap between the body seam and the sliders, then check between the cat plate and the exhaust. Look for a wear mark were the slider might be making contact with the body or exhuast. Might need a small mirror to see up and in the cat plate.

I had the same thing happening and it turned out to be the exhaust hitting the frame near the engine bay. If you look into the wheel well you can see the exhaust and their should be a clamp over the exhaust keeping it away from the frame. In my case it was broken and had to be re clamped. This is a common problem in your case because you said it happens when accelerating which involves a lot of torque shaking around your exhaust. Good luck!

HEYYYYY!!! I THINK I KNOW THE PROBLEM!!!! i think...maybe....sorry, okay, i dont know if its comming from the rear or the front of the car, but if you cant hear it outside but when your inside, listen to this. i had the same noise problem and i couldnt figure out what it was either. but then in a couple of days, i realized it was the 3rd row seats. there is metal bar on the bottom of the seat, and when it comes un-attached it moves around and squeaks. i dunno if this is what you are hearing, but it sounds like what ive been hearing too. check it out. i dont think ive fixed so i couldnt tell you how to, but the sound could be the 3rd row seats.

I had that same thing happen......couldn't figure out whay the clanking was. Low and behold it was that metal bar attached to the third row seats! I had just bought it and was thinking the worst. It happened after I had flipped the seats up.

haha...i cant believe the noise it made tho..it didnt sound like it could be somethign liek that. i guess the only way fix it is to flip the seat down. i feel sorry for the dude for replacing all that stuff in his LC and then if the noise is what I think it is, finding out that its something so small that requires no money or effort to fix.
