Curran, i feel for you also. I litterally teared up a little reading your post and thinking that some day i may be in the same boat with my best friend.

Sorry for your loss. Try to replace him (not that he can be replaced) with another that will bring you many more fond memories.

I Wish Nietzsche Good Travels In His Afterlife; And Fear The Day I Must Do As You Have Done. Chin Up! He Looked Happy And Well Cared For. Your Job Is Done. Cheers To His Memories!

Thanks everyone for the warm thoughts. My girlfriend has been blow away by the way people who know very little of each other reach out on this board to support one another in rough times.

I feel guilty just admitting this but the desire for a new pup is growing already. It won’t be until early fall before I feel that I can toe that line again. Nietzsche was such a big part of my life it seems disloyal to take on another pet too soon. Also my schedule makes it difficult to start training a new pup right now.
I really want to take on another Malinois (perfect dog in my mind) but the time commitment for such an animal is almost too much to handle at this point in my career.

I do need another copilot for the trails though…

The hour plus commute each way to work has never been so miserable as it has this week. One hour each way to sit and think about the dog..

I wanted to add a special note of thanks to Dr. Bill Bush of Leesburg Emergency Veterinary Clinic. He won’t see this; however his help, optimism and patience over the past two weeks went far beyond the call of duty. I’d highly recommend him to any pet owner in the northern VA area.

I also wanted to say thanks to my girlfriend, Megan, whose support and understanding have been greatly needed and appreciated. When we first started dating, she proudly claimed that she wasn’t going to become emotionally attached to Nietzsche. I just chuckled and responded “good luck.” Nietzsche and his passing have had a big impact on Megan as well. Without her around to cheer me up I’d be in a big world of hurt.
