You need a gas tank skid plate, show them this picture. I think the answer is obvious.

Since I'm breaking things down, removing all of the Budbuilt skids for some clean up and repainting. All I can say is that I'm glad I have one on my rig...:D

I gotta get one under my rig, that plastic pos is getting beat to death. I get scared everytime I go out!
 
The gas tank itself is 3/8" thick it is it's own skid plate, we have never run one and haven't suffered from any damage.
 
Yes it is. I know the Metal Tech rig has travelled trails that put most of us to shame. I also know that those who drive it are skilled off-roaders. As one can see by my skid plate, I'm not as good.

I've only read of a handful that have damaged their gas tank, so it is clearly a durable material. Yet, I'd rather give myself a margin of error, particularly, the way my luck as been running recently...

Wow that's thick! I have witnessed how tough they are first hand but I think it is pretty good piece of mind to have one.
 
It might be thick tank but it's not an area I really want to risk possibly having issues ever.
