Hey folks what all do I need to do to make a newer gauge cluster from say, a '73 FJ40, work in a '66? I know I will need a newer speedo cable, but what else?

In my haynes manual, it show a pre 72 wiring diagram w/ 7 wires going to the cluster. The cluster appears to have an ammeter, fuel gauge, oil pressure warning light, high beam indicator, and water temp gauge. In the 73 picture, I see 6 wires going to the cluster, all are the same except I don't see any high beam indicator...anywhere. So maybee it's in the 73 cluster too, not sure, I drive a 55. If the newer cluster also has a high beam indicator in it, it should bolt right up, as it were. You may need a different sender for the oil guage, not sure.

the early gauges had bolt on wires .the 72 and 3 used plugs but still used the bolts for the wires .i think the fuel ,water temp are reversed .the wiring color is basicly the same so hooking them up isnt hard .some of the sending units may not match the gauges just right .if it has the printed circuit board the wires have to be spliced and speedo cable changed good luck
