Tejasyota refered me over here from the TTORA forum. Like I mentioned over at the TTORA forum, I just received a 1980 Toyota 4X4 long bed 20R that hasn't run in 5 years and looking for help/advice. The truck is all stock except the rear bumper.

I think I've narrowed down the problem to the distributor pick up, igniter or coil. I've been looking at the D.U.I. (Davis Unified Ignition) distributor to solve the problem. But I was curious what you guys use, or do you recommend this?

I see this 20r motor has allot of vacuum hoses, is there an upgrade I can purchase to eliminate all or most of these? (Like a Weber carb)

Pretty much every seal on this truck leaks. Do you guys have a good place to go for parts or odd ball items?

Any extra words of wisdom are welcome.

Hope to see you guys around.
Thanks

What is the problem with the truck? won't start i assume? Are you getting spark?

Sorry...
No spark to the plugs. I get 12Vdc at the coil and igniter but never a spark going out. I checked the grounds also and they ohm good. Coil ohms out good even tried a spare that came with the truck but no spark.

I haven't torn the distributor apart to see if it's a magnetic pick up or points system. I guess that could be an issue if the points are corroded, but I currently don't know how to check a magnetic pick up.

I know this truck is 30 years old and don't expect to see vary many "new" parts. I just figure if I do the D.U.I distributor I'll have all modern parts and easy 1 wire hook up.

Hey Sparsky, glad to see you found your way here! Hope you get your rig up and running.
If you need any help, do not forget we are all (TLCA & TTORA) a willing bunch to come to invade your place to eat drink and fix stuff.
Let us know. :D

Downey is no more.
They were one of many companies that closed their doors last year.
No idea if someone plans to purchase the name and inventory they had.
There was a thread on all the Toyota off-road messageboards regarding this sad day.

Sell it. I'll give ya 250 bux for it

On my old truck I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a fusible link just off of the battery terminal.
