I promis I did look through the search list first but I couldnt find exactly what I was looking for.
Well here is the deal I bought a 85 FJ60 last night and it ran fine while I test drove it and for most of the ride home. I had to stop and get gas then I drove it to a gravel pit to check out how it would do on few small hills. The first hill tried to drive up it bogged down and died so I put it in 4 low and started it back up. Then it started idiling really ruff and running ruff as well. I had to give it a lot of gas to keep it running so I just headed for home and on the way it was back fireing, and sputtering. After I got home I looked under the hood for any loose hoses, wires or anything obviose and found nothing. And this rig did just have some work done to make it pass IM inspection.

What do you guy suggest I check out?

If somebody just worked on the emissions, I'd start there. Checking for loose vacuum hoses is good, but going through each one with the factory service manual to make sure it's hooked up right is even better.

Search on here for EGR bypass and try it out. Could do the trick.

Replace the fuel filter and try a higher grade of fuel. Sounds like bad gas but some trucks will deisel with to low of octane. I know a lot of folks will jump on here and say the cheapest fuel is what these truck use but if its acting up some of them work better with better fuel. I have a weber carb and it desiels on 87 but not on 89

x2 on the fuel filter and better gas. try an additive to remove any possible water, timing, tune up, and don't forget the birds nest of emission crap since that was were the last work was done like forestdan7 said.

when i bought my 60 about 4 months ago it sat for about a year. it too was idling very rough on my first drive home. i adjusted the float level since it was way rich first. that didn't help at all. so i just started driving it and it has been getting better and better all the time. maybe bad gas. do you know if yours sat for a while?

Thanks Guys

I did look for any loose hoses and I opened the air breather cover and found that the Carb is nasty dirty. It has a lot of black residue that rubs off onto my finger. So it looks like a problem that has been there for a while. I still have to try the better gas and some heat to remove any water from the tank.
