Hey guys and gals, Im new to the board. Nice forum by the way. I have a 1967 fj40 that I have had for years. I think its time to get it back on the road. I have always wanted a 40 and I lucked into one about 5 or 6 years ago. I gave 300 for it and she runs ok but needs some attn. I will be in here with questions and looking for advise. Any and all help is appricated.

Welcome.

Welcome Useless without Pics.

I think theres a guy on the board that works on engines and tinkers with Carbs;)

Thanks guys. I am interested in doing the disk brake set up. I got started then got side lined. When I bought it it had a hacked up spring over. So I got all that straight by installing used diffs. I cut the old brake hoses so they need to be replaced and installed.

I bought rear disk brake brackets from jt outfitters and then stopped. I am trying to get motivated agian. I just found a mini truck for parts so Im hoping to get the knuckles off it.

How difficult is it to do the front brake set up? Any tricks to know about? Also what has to be done as far as the master cy, lines, ect?

What are you doing for the front? Using a FJ axle or a mini? You should be able to hit the search button for the board and find some answers. My project is at this stage also so will be cobling together a mix of FJ and Mini parts for my brake system.

Kirk,
You are also dealing with the old weird 9mm brake line fittings. I'd suggest doing toyota discs up front, GM rear disc, Toyota dual circuit master and minitruck power booster. Run all new lines w/ modern 10mm metric fittings and hoses (not as complicated as it sounds). There is a firewall adapter available (from RockLobster, IIRC) that allows bolting the booster to the early tub w/ no firewall mods. It's all been done before, so nothing very challenging or scary. Just takes some time and $$.

Trekker, I am not sure which way im going yet. I can get the complete frontend out of the mini. Are they interchangable? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either? which way did you go? Thx

Jim, thanks for the heads up on the lines and firewall adpt. I have the GM adapters for the rears I just have to decide which way to go on the fronts. This is a bit overwelming but I got to get this done. This is were I got discuraged in the past and just stopped. Thx

I've got pretty much the same thing on my to do list. I'm going to be using the mini-truck setup from the knuckles out, with the mini birfs.

Maybe we need to form an offshoot chapter of the BBS. The NYRC of the BBS (the not yet running cruisers of the Buckeye Birfield Syndicate)...

I'm running a custom mini truck axle with V6 calipers and rotors. Plan to use my mini truck clutch cylinders and a FJ80 Master for the Brakes. Would like to go disc in the rear end but that's illegal in my class:crybaby: :frown:

Here she is

Here she is in need of attenion. I hope to get her going agian soon.

Wait a minute. The FJ40 in the pictures is not a 1967. It is a 1970-71.

It has the 1971-earlier heater grill on the side.
it has the 1970-1974 side markers and front signals.

This is a good thing. It may already have 10mm metric brake lines, power brakes, dual circuit hydraulics...

It may also have fine spline inner axles, and Birfields intead of ball& claw front axles.

I'll have to look at it and decode the dates on the engine, carb, transfer case, etc.

Rick,

Good luck with the work on your truck if you need help let me know im always looking to mess with something if im not working on mine. Next time we have a meeting you'll have to stop out. And I like your 40 ugly trucks Rock !
