So I just moved to Santa Barbara and am looking for fj40 people in the area. I have a 1972 fj40 that I have been getting together for the last 6 months or so. I havent done much with it yet, just brakes tires wheels, oil, had the head machined, new water pump and radiator, rip the top off and drive it. But pretty quickly after it warmed up I realized it has a pretty bad knock coming from the piston nearest the firewall. So I have been debating trying to rebuild the f engine or go all out sbc 350 nv4500. what do yall think?

Hey there and welcome to the area! I myself do not own a FJ40 but a friend of mine Ian who works for Synergy/ Polyperformance in San Luis Obispo has a stock 40 Root beer brown. Its beautiful! (as is yours) He is always proud to say his is "unmolested". I would have to agree and say that rebuilding the stock engine would be the way to go. Yeah the horse-power of the V8 is nice but its getting harder to find FJ40s stock. I would say that it retains more value keeping it stock.
One day i will own one of these awesome rigs!! Thanks for listening!
