I've always wanted to own a land cruiser, either an 80 or a 100 series, with the 100 being preferred. I didn't want a diesel. I've been looking for a while while driving my Challenger SRT. Finally, after understanding that the new orleans streets suck for a lower car, I sold it. With cash in hand I flew to a potentially shady dealer in jacksonville, Florida. They buy lower class auctions from Japan that are running and driving, may need something small; mechanically or something small with the body.

I was able to pick up a 1998 JDM 100 series land cruiser with the full aero kit. Of course, I looked for all the main things; I checked out the power steering and there really wasn't any sweating. There is a good deal of surface rust on some of the engine components, but not bad or flaky. Surface rust on some of the underneath components, but nothing abnormal. Nothing that would warrant digging into it to replace.

The interior had brand new j. D. M leather seat covers, but they are cloth seats and I haven't taken him off yet to see what the seats look like. Absolutely. Love the front bumper side skirts in wing. And then whoever in japan, I want to thank them for putting on a fujitsibo exhaust for some reason. I just drove it five hours and it ran like a champ, the whole way.

I was very fortunate to find one where it had a Timing sticker on it from JAPAN. And it was only about 40k ago in 2023 that it was done. That made me feel a lot better. The AHC raises and lowers, but I think the front struts are shot because they are super bouncy. So I'm going to debate whether I fix the AHC or do a swap. I have a 10 hour drive home so I'm going to do all the fluids before I leave.

I'll get some pictures up, but this is all I have until it's daylight again. Also learned that cruise control is limited to 67mph lol

Well, 15 hours and 1000 miles later (even hitting up to 90) I made it home. Except for the miss (coil packs, plugs, and MAF cleaning Saturday) and the suspension it drove like a champ.

Very cool! I love JDM vehicles. I spend some time in NOLA, some of the worst roads i've ever driven on.... A landcruiser seems like it would be a must to deal with all those potholes!

Awesome score! Been so tempted to bring in a lower mile cruiser like that.

I will say having owned both an LX470 and an LC, the 100s with the AHC suspension ride so much better. Definitely do as others have advised and get the AHC fixed, unless you plan to heavily off-road and then delete it and go with a lift kit setup.

Even if you are planning to off road, keep AHC. I have off roaded my heavily laden AHC truck all over CO with no issues. @kreiten has run the notorious Rubicon trail on his AHC truck.

Oh by the way OP - nice truck!

Nice! I did a 2.5" lift and went all over Colorado trails multiple summer trips as well over the last few years. It performed amazingly, but good to hear you can still roll with AHC if you want

Cool truck!

Your front shocks aren't shot. Your accumulator "globes" are. Replace all 4 and your suspension will be ready to roll without the need to swap / delete / etc.
The more I learn! Yeah, I've been seeing how that's the main failure and impex has good deals on them. This isn't going to be an overland so I wouldn't mine keeping the AHC. I have an appt with a toyota indy on Monday to give it a once over and see if it's just the globes or something else. Hopefully it's just the globes

Just in case you don't know about them, other great OEM parts sources are partsouq.com and amayama.com

I've ordered from both many times and very happy

Nice ride, we just got our two days a go, 99 from Japan. I live in NE Louisiana close to Monroe. My wife is a rural mail carrier. We thought it would make an excellent vehicle for her. I have a lot to learn about these.
