Hi-

First, great forum. I just joined the ranks buying an '01 TLC, and I love it already. Getting into it in the morning gives me that same great, driving-the-best-thing-on-the-road feeling that I used to get from my 911. Plan is to keep it stock and use it as a daily driver for 2.5 years, then keep it as an off-roader indefinitely.

Now, a couple of questions:

Can anybody recommend a good LC mechanic in the Cleveland OH area? Or one of the dealers?

Also, I've got 84K now and called the dealer (Motorcars in Cleveland) for an estimate of the 90K maintenance. Here's what they gave me:

timing belt $606
water pump $329 (same time as timing belt)
serpentine belt $58
diff oil f/r $55 each
transfer case oil $70
AT service $70 (or $203 if they drop the pan)

Anyway, I knew this wouldn't be cheap to own, but these seem a bit steep, esp the timing belt and WP. I'm fine spending the $$$ if that's what it costs, but don't want to get taken for a ride.

Any input would be much appreciated. Also, I've spent a lot of the past couple of days reading about 1000 threads here, and I'm SO happy I got this instead of a newer Scoobydoo or Jeep.

THanks,
DoctorJay

$929 for the belt and pump seems steep. I would get several more quotes and see if you can do better.

Hopefully someone will chime in with a local recommendation for a mechanic.

Congrats on the new purchase, welcome to the board, and I hope you like your LC as much as I like mine!

Dunno how the inside of the tranny pan looks at 90k on a 100 - and this depends also on how its been driven/loaded - but based on my own experience, I'd recommend you drop the pan when changing the AT oil.

There may be stuff in the bottom of the pan that you want to clean out.

:)

(My own pan is probably still clean, except for whatever my "typical American driver" wife put in there when she drove the thing for the first few years of its life...)

Thanks for the input so far.

I was wondering about the tranny pan drop. The service writer at the dealership seemed to think it was totally unecessary.

I don't know a lot about the history, but as best I can piece together, the last owner (who put on a lot of miles) was a software rep of some sort who drove it around OH, MI, PA, etc.

Don't think it's seen much offroad use anyway, so maybe I should just skip that this time.

I still really want to know where people in NE Ohio have taken their LC/LX for service and gotten good results!

DrJay,

Try posting in the Chat section and more people will see it. "Recommend a mechanic in NE Ohio" or something like that.
