Hi everyone,

I just bought an 80 about two weeks ago and am interested in becoming involved in the local LC community. Any tips are appreciated. Would especially like to know more about nearby offroading opportunities and excursions.

Also, I'm planning a trip to either Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park for mid-December with my two boys, ages 10 and 4. I'll only have two days there. I would appreciate any tips you might have on where to stay and specific trails to drive that are scenic and moderately challenging. Since we will be going by ourselves, I want to make sure the choice of trails isn't likely to lead us to be stranded, but at the same time I'd like to give the 80 a bit of a workout and the kids an adventure. In terms of lodging, we will need to stay outside the parks because their rooms are already booked. Don't want to camp. Any thoughts on a decent motel that won't break the bank but is clean and convenient to the parks? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!

Finally, I'm interested in being involved in the local club as well.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the club!

I think I just responded to your gmail email. I have added you to our list.

You should try to make it to our next wrench day on the 11th. We will be working on our 80's.

You can search for brettinsa here in our club, he has been to BB probably more than any of us but as far as lodging there probably isn't any place that is cheap or inexpensive. There is the Big Bend motor inn in Study Butte just outside of the gate towards Alpine, it's not the best but it's lodging. There is a hotel in lajitas, I dont recall the name but a bit pricey and then there are a couple of places in Marathon that are great places to stay. I haven't done any off roading so can't help there but there are alot of places to see in two days.

GL and welcome to the club

Thanks for the tips! Maybe I'll see you at the wrench day on the 11th!
