New owner of 2010 Trail Teams

Hello to all. My name is Dennis and today is one of my best day ever, I am proud owner of a 2010 TT 6/MT and I love this truck, it is not my first 4x4 I still have my 1968 Bronco, but man Toyota did a great job on this truck. I had to go to Roseville CA to pick it up and I live in Riverside CA, I have a good buddy that works for the Toyota dealership and gave me a great deal. the truck had 27632 mile on it and I got it for $25,500
First question for all you expert out there. I would like to lift this ASAP and I would like to know if I can change the tires to 285/75/16 BFG KM2. will I lose any POWER? or am I still in the safe zone. I took some pieces in dealer serevice bay for the last inspection. I will thank you all in advance for your expertise. Dennis

Anytime you increase the size of the tire/wheel combo, you make an impact on the final drive. Yes, it will have an effect on how "peppy" the FJC will feel. Your also adding some significant weight to the rotational mass, that will impact it also.

The question is: how much? You are going from a stock tire under 32" to almost a 34" tire, taller and wider. I "felt" a difference on mine when I went from stock to 255/85/16's, IMHO, you'll feel it going to that tire. You'll also have to deal with rubbing on the front body mount.

I love the BFG KM2 tires, run them on my FZJ80 and are a very nice tire on the road, even better off-road.

As always, Mtbcoach offers sage advice. I will add that when I went to a very similar size tire (BFG A/T 285/70/17) I had just installed an Old Man Emu lift kit that gave me a 2-2.5 inch above stock. I actually liked the more "grounded" feeling the heavier tires gave the truck. It just felt like it had a lower center of gravity, which was a welcome feeling as I was breaking in the OME springs (stiff ride and exaggerated body roll for a month or so).
