and not in a good way.
"Legislature 'Sweeps' OHV Account to Help Plug State Deficit
Earlier this week, the New Mexico State Legislature passed a bill that 'sweeps' $116 million dollars from various state accounts to help make up the huge New Mexico budget deficit. Included in that money was $800,000 from the OHV fund. Yep, they cleaned it out.
It happened so fast we weren't even able to warn you it was coming. The bill was part of the larger patchwork of bills that the special legislative session produced and sent to the Governor's desk for signature.
If the Governor signs the bills, there isn't much that can be done about it EXCEPT this: I encourage each and everyone of you to think about this deficit and how the State got into this predicament the next time you step into a voting booth to elect a state official.
As we move forward, it is even more important that we work hard to ensure that future money in the OHV fund gets spent on worthwhile programs and projects. If the money is on the ground serving our needs, we won't need to worry about it getting stolen again."
