100% new to LCs/LXs. Live a hop skip and jump to Uwharrie.

I was baptized by being victim to a valley leak that I did not know about when i bought the LX570 from a local guy. Did the work myself under book time, and had to change out the radiator to boot!

Anyway, I do not plan to wheel the LX at Uwharrie, I have a jeep for that. Maybe one of the easy trails just to give the thing a workout.

If you sign up for membership you will be able to go to Logans Run at Uwharrie today. Lots of people to show you the ropes if the LX.

Good to see you made it over here.

Def plan on coming out to an event.
The Christmas party is always a good time to say hello and meet some folks. Trails are
Closed obviously but good fun relaxed time.

Have the valley plate leak on a new to me 200 as well. still debating if I want to tackle that one.

never heard of it, sounds cool. Not sure I am down to wheel the thing yet, it is a bit too nice.

It is not too bad. I actually wrote down the steps in a notebook in the order that I did it. You will need some workspace and a table to organize the parts and bolts. It will save you about 3000 bucks or so. Let me see if I can find the notebook. I used "right stuff" in lieu of the toyota stuff, worked like a charm. By far the worse part is the EGR valve removal. 4 bolts, terrible positions. A high creeper is key on this one for sure.

I had never wrenched on a Toyota until that day BTW.

You're a better man than I am. I let the dealership do it; I hate those engines.

FWIW, my LX570 cruised every tank trail on Ft Bragg. On street tires. It was happy as a clam. That's a real 4wd.

I have a hard time paying someone to do what I can do. I have the money, but I like to learn as much as I can about my vehicles. It is a complex engine for sure, good but overly complex.

The other reason, is that I have a hard time trusting mechanics or anyone for that matter, especially at a dealer, where they know NOTHING beyond what a computer tells them.

I have had bad luck with s*** mechanics over the years.

I would perhaps with some more knowledge, tackle something like a cam tower leak or timing chain, much bigger job.

I wheeled in several areas at Bragg back when I was in, especially down Gruber Rd. And Area J.

I'm picky about who I let work on my trucks. There is exactly one service adviser I work with, who has been there 35 years, and he knows there are only two mechanics who are allowed to touch my trucks. And that only happens when I just don't have time to do the work myself; unless it's my wife's GX460. I do not work on that.

I was one of the three DPW Master Planners for the post, several years ago. I don't think there's anywhere on that post, or the associated training areas I haven't been. I hated checking out the Army mule, so I always took my LX570, when I could get away with it. I was more comfortable in it than I would have been in a Humvee. And I got smiles and winks from the operators when they saw me coming. They were my primary customers.

So far I've found the 3UR fairly easy to on. Granted I've only done a knock sensor harder and knock sensor replacement along with air injection delete. But I've put my big dasquatch hands all over the engine bay to see what would be hard to get to. The starter seem to be the only thing I'm dubious about.

But there also may be more room in the tundra engine bay.
