Long over due update

Been a while since I have checked in..... didn't want you guys to think I had abandoned the project already :grinpimp: We've been busy working on Cruisers just not our own.

Have a friend and fellow mudder here (danielwatters) that had some unfortunate Cruiser luck recently and need a hand. He is a service member and is being relocated to a new base this coming weekend and his FJ45 lwb had the old F engine lock up on him a few weeks ago. Needless to say he was in a pinch to get it back up and running before his moving day arrived. I just happened to have an old F engine laying around that I knew was in good shape as it was once in my old college roomates cruiser back in the day. So I made arrangements with Daniel to get his 45 over to my place this past weekend and we did a marathon wrenching session all day Sat. in 90* heat to swap out the motors......... to say the least it was a long day:doh: But in the end we got the old girl fired up and running like a champ again

enjoy the pics....

the patient....

the old engine looked to have been rebuilt and ran great prior to locking

the "new" F.... had been in storage for 6 years, but that didn't seem to bother it.

had quite a time getting the old engine out and lots of other little bumps along the way but the most interesting moment came when I realized with the engine locked up I couldn't remove the clutch and flywheel as I couldn't rotate crank shaft to access the bolts holding things on........ being in a rush to get the swap done in one day and with my supply of old useless 3spd. bell housing we resorted to archaic methods to remove the bellhousing :hillbilly:

enter the BFH...... problem solved

WOW ! and some people still dont get it ? Why are we so into this hobby, lifestyle Great Job JP. Looks like you all had a Great Time. Makes me wish I could have been there

Wish you could've been there too Rob! Thanks to JP and his dad for helping me out. I'm still impressed with the bellhousing trick! ;)

Looks like a great day of wrenching.....if there is anyone who can do a 1 day swap out it's JP.... I can't tell u the number of time he did that like the day before a wheeling trip....needless to say JP likes a challenge. It's only been 6 or so years since JP has used the BFH method on a bellhousing.

And you can thank Clemson for your priceless education and 'alternative problem solving' skills.

I've always maintained that there is not a problem in this world which cannot be solved with a big enough hammer. Well done!

Fixed it for you. ;)

That's awesome guys. A one day engine swap is awesome!

Dan

Yeah, what Dan said. He's been doing an engine swap for a weeeeeeeee bit longer.:wrench::doh::bang::idea::bounce::beer:

JP

I miss the LV's steal away!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Haven't been on the board much lately or wrenching on the LV.... guess I am still recovering from that 1 day engine swap :hillbilly:

Good news is we recieved the parts we badly needed for the resto from Landcrusher909 and Tahoe 40/45. BIG thanks to both of you guys as we now have pretty much everything that was missing. It is guys like you that make the Mud community so awesome

Should have lots of progress pics this weekend as we have both Sat. and Sun. free to work on the LV.... plans are to finsih up the resto. of the drive train. Rebuild the t-case, rebuild rear diff, install new clutch, all new gaskets throughout the engine and trans, and lots of painting, etc.

On a side note Rob it is supposed to be in the 90's here this weekend so that long sleeve USC shirt might be out but maybe it can pull double duty as a grease rag :grinpimp:

Come on JP. Page 2? Get back to work.

It's too hot to work here now.... when the thermometer reads 100 I don't do anything other than surf Mud. :hillbilly:

Seriously though been getting my home ready to move back into after being out for 3 months..... but back to our regularly scheduled programing next weekend as the new leaf springs for the LV should be arriving this week:cheers:

It's the humidity that drains you...we've already hit that this year...I really hope we don't have the hot summer they are expecting...

Your Kidding right ? :grinpimp:

You Cali. boys don't know how good you have it........ I've spent time during summer in Phoenix 110-115 and I 'd take that any day over 100 and 100% humidity..... the south is hell in the summer, trust me

but don't fear guys we'll be putting in a full weekend on the LV this weekend, hope to have the rolling chasis complete
