The brake cylinder on the pic are aftermarket, right ?
Cheers
Peter

Yep, they are aftermarket from CCOT....... about a 1/3 the cost of OEM and I have used them with good success in the past.

Ha! If someone told me 15 years ago that shiny washes, nuts and bolts would excite me.......

Dang JP, you guys are doing well considering everything that's going on right now. Later!

Back from a little vacation....... being an Augusta native whenever the Masters golf tournament rolls into town it is my que to roll out cause this town goes crazy

Packed up the wife's 80 with all our beach gear, strapped on the the RTT and canoe and headed due south for the Florida Keys. Spent a nice relaxing week basically doing nothing but throwing back cervezas and fishing and it was fantastic

starting back to work on the LV this week, but for now a couple of pics of our set-up in the Keys!!

packed up and heading out well before sunrise...

Home sweet home.... the RTT is a great way to meet folks; about everyone in the camp had to come over and check it out and ask all kinds of questions

Great camp spot! I love my Rockies, but those pictures make me feel very land-locked....

Thanks guys....... I admittedly am a huge mountians fan and 90% of the vacations I take usually center around the Rockies and west in general. This beach trip was for my wife but I have to say the campsite and view were killer and I even came to enjoy laying on the beach and drinking cervezas all day. Still not as fun though wheeling in Moab or the San Juans :grinpimp:

Back to the LV.........

Made some decent progress last night. Tore down the front axle, degreased, and sandblasted/wire wheeled it in preparation for paint tonight. It was my pops first real experience with the 90w, when we started tearing into the axle he immediately asked what smelled so bad?? To which I emphatically replied 90W!! I explained to him it is a smell he will grow to love with time being a cruiser owner:hillbilly:

got a few pics, not much but the axle sure does look good all shined up

most parts on the LV have the 10 digit part # on the but the diffs are still stamped with the early 5 digit... kinda cool

DSC_0998.jpg

Also noticed the diff was stamped with "FJ40" was this another feature of the early 5 digit system or do all diffs have FJ40 stamped on them??

that is all for now.... tonight I'll lay down the paint!

Looks like you are using a braided wire cup on an angle grinder. Is this what you have found works best for the paint/rust removal on the axle and chassis parts? Your progress is outstanding. I always find myself wasting time trying every different paint removing tool I have and never really just get down to it. I think I'd like to try one of those cups.

Scott.... the braided wire cup works great for removing surface rust and scaly
rust, but it is not so great for removing paint. I personally prefer and think that sand blasting is the superior way to removed old paint followed by industrial paint stripper. However if you are looking for something to attach to an angle grinder to remove paint I have always had great luck with these:

You can get them at Lowes or Home Depot and they will eat paint with ease off the sheet metal, problem is they obviously won't fit into tight spaces.....these and the industrial paint stripper is all I used before I got my sand blaster.

HTH

I'm sure you're on it, but you should really replace that front timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket and rear main while you have the motor out. You will kick yourself later if you don't -
