New Inchworm Lefty at Moab (photos)

Tried my new Inchworm "Lefty" transfer case out in Moab last week. FMD, that thing is fun! Incredible control, especially going down a steep descent or coming off a large obstacle. Far superior to stock; can't imagine why Toyota didn't put a lower-geared transfer case in the FJC in the first place.

Did Seven Mile Rim (including Wipeout Hill), Behind the Rocks, Strike Ravine, and Area BFE including the parts of Lower Helldorado still available from there. And some lesser trails. What a blast! Can't wait to go back. A few photos:

Just curious though...if you do the "Left foot braking", Would it be the same ? or still the Inchworm is better?

The Lefty is far superior to left foot braking. With Lefty you don't need to use your brakes. Congrats on using Lefty and enjoying it.

Apples and oranges comparison; left-foot braking is a technique to divert power to a tractive wheel on an open diff, whereas the Lefty transfer case just gives you a much higher crawl ratio (almost double that of stock in my case). You can still left-foot brake with Lefty, or lock up your diffs too if you'd rather. The big advantage to Lefty is the control - much less throttle or braking required on any obstacle, you just crawl up or down.

With Lefty you don't need to use your brakes.

All but the TC "neutral" light. Lefty only has one sensor, and the stock TC has three. The one in Lefty is a high/low range detector, it gets wired into the stock FJC harness where one of the stock ones went. Of the other two sensors in the stock TC, one detects 4WD (high or low) and engages the ADD on the front diff. I wired a manual switch into this circuit to replace the sensor. The last stock sensor is the neutral indicator, which I thought was useless so I just left the stock connector hanging.

I had a chance to be the test rig for this when it came out, but I could not get the time off work and make the drive to get it installed when it first came out.

I believe it was Sol then that had the first one installed.

Yep, a replacement for the stock transfer case.

The list price for the case (from Inchworm's web site that Corey gave a link to above) is $1995.00, but they gave away several $600 discount certificates at the last FJC Summit in Ouray, some of which are (were?) for sale at a discount on the blue forum.

I don't know how much installation would run, as I did mine myself. It's not a difficult install if you are mechanically inclined and have tools.
