Hi -

I'm new here and have just bought my second LC. My first one was a 1999 Series 100 that I had for seven years, but had to sell so that I could transport an elderly relative that came to live with us. Long-story short, she couldn't get up into it and we had a small garage, so my cruiser had to go. It was black, so that was a mistake but otherwise, it was the best vehicle I've ever owned.

Flash-forward to mid Feb 2017. I'm getting ready to retire and am shrinking our garage. My company car will be going away when I stop work, and my beloved 911 wasn't seeing much road time...so I chose return to the best vehicle I've ever owned/'driven: the Toyota Land Cruiser. And I made this decision without even a test drive.

From my past, I knew that a black LC would be a mistake. I took our last one out wheeling about a week into our time together, and got the sides scratched-up by brush...much to the chagrin of my wife. I was able to rub most of the scratches out, but every time I even got near dirt, the black paint showed dirt like crazy. So, this time I went with white exterior with a black interior.

Initial impressions: this thing is amazingly quiet and has a lot more power. The stereo is better than the last one, and the memory seats are great because my wife and I are completely different sizes. The gas mileage still stinks, but I save a bit by not having to buy premium fuel. In the past 400 miles, I've already had it up past the snow line into snow/ice single track and, even with the stock tires, it's amazing. I wish there was a way to easily remove the rear seats like with the 100 because it looks like when you unbolt the two rear seats, it'll leave holes in the carpet/rear sides. Also, I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the back seat video screens and cover the remaining holes, but don't want some sort of eye-sore left over.

I bought the extended warranty because of the amount of high-tech electrical stuff that could go wrong, plus my wife's RAV4 had many, many expensive repairs under the extended warranty that would have cost us > 3x the cost of purchase.

So - nice to meet you. I'll likely be looking for some more rugged tires (KO2's) when I wear out the OEM rubber, purchasing a set of snow tires next fall, be removing the 3rd row seats, and reading up around here on what other things I need to know about this new, wonderful LC.

Welcome back to the cruiser family! You'll find this is an incredible bunch of guy, they've gone above and beyond for me.

Welcome back!

Thanks for the nice welcome! I look forward to (eventually) being able to give back more than I get here. From my past month of reading, it look like you've got an amazing amount of knowledge on this board.

I learn something new here just about every day. Tons of helpful folk here.

Welcome back!. I love the white exterior/black interior combo.

Nice to see you in a 200! There have been many others comment on the holes left in upholstery when removing the LCD screens and 3rd row. On of the vendors on here, @NLXTACY, is aware there is a ready market for solutions, so perhaps those will happen sometime soon.

Hmm, speaking of which someone was going to send me those pieces so I could get some measurements. I need to figure out who that was.

It was probably me. Have your people PM my people and we'll set something up. (Now, if only I had people!).

Welcome, Nice 200, just purchased a 2017 last week. wife was not sure since she had test driven and not likes a 2011. Loved this one almost immediately, " better than my infinity qx80". Was not driving and plan on selling the GT500 conv. (911s left when kids came along).
Tagging, because I have the same ???s about 3rd seats and TVs.

Also would you mind PM with the type and cost of the extended warranty. We are interested in one again due to the extensive technology in the car, but thought what the dealer presented was quite costly. Anyone recommend a dealer who sells the warranties reasonably?

Thanks @Sandroad - great information. Hey @NLXTACY - I'm all over a solution for the back of my LC. Only thing I ask is that it be black. Please keep me in mind if you develop something.

Congrats. My 2016 is same color as yours. And yes as much as I think the white exterior is boring, it's easy to maintain even if you don't wash it. Great minds think I like :)

Congrat and welcome.... we both having the same LC.... my plate will be "3B TOYS" let me know if you ever see me on the road. I am very sure this summer I will take the kiddo to Sun River :)

Oh yeah, please post more on the extended warrenty that you got. When I picked mine up I thought about it, but I think it is a LC, what can go wrong with it? Plus I was thinking of tearing it apart and do things my way. Now I drive it so much and so comfortable in it, I think I am going to keep it original. I may go back to the dealer and buy extended warrantee.

Hi Benny! Thanks for the note - will most certainly give you a wave if we see 3B TOYS on a white LC. If you haven't been there yet, your kid will love SHARC, the nighttime observatory, and being able to ride all over the place (remember to bring your bikes). One of the top things on my list is to explore the Steens Mountain Wilderness (Steens Mountain Oregon/Washington BLM) in the June timeframe:
  • Rough terrain – deep canyons and rocky slopes are a natural part of the rugged mountain territory. Elevation can change from less than 4,000 feet to over 9,000 feet in just a few miles. We recommend high clearance or 4x4 vehicles for primitive roads, including the steep and rocky portion of the Steens Mountain Loop Road near South Steens Campground. The rest of the Steens Mountain Loop Road can accommodate passenger cars at lower speeds. High quality tires are a must for all vehicles, even when traveling on maintained routes.
We live in a beautiful area.
