Just wondering if they have redesigned the new FJ's to eliminate the body, wheel well rip/tear issues? I was very interested in getting one until I saw these issues.

Nothing official from Toyota yet but it has seemed to effect a smaller percentage of FJs. None on ours after 18 months.

Sorry to jump on board,

Any changes to windshield glass for the 08 model year? Are people still having the same issue of multiple window replacements?

My '08 has 25000 miles in 6 months and no windsheid or body rips.

Dang, my '07 will be two years old come July, and I just turned 13K.

Short commute though, 28 miles round trip to work 5 days a week.

I've had mine 14 months, no rips, same windshield, 15,700 miles. I thought the rips only occurred with larger than stock tires that pushed up on the fenders at full compression.

DEWFPO

Bulges and rips appear to have occurred on lifted w/ larger tires and stock alike. I have minor bulge on one side, ran 285/70/17 BFGs (32.6") until 2 weeks ago and wheeled all over he!! and creation for almost 34K miles now.

My windshiled finally cracked, but it deserved to, I had taken several hard rock hits, 2 chips, and no cracks for almost two years until 3 weeks ago, a stone chip low on the passenger side decided to crack and creep accross the windshiled. it was about 4 inches when I first noticed it and after two long trail days it has doubled in length. When it gets across the windshield to my side, I'll replace. My opinion is that the whole windshield thing is bunk. People whining about normal wear and tear that anything has to be somebody's fault.

I travel about 1000 miles a week for work. (Technical Sales)

Thought wrong. Toyota has still not made any official statements about the issue. It has been see on early vehicles and new 08 models. It has been reported on heavily modified rigs as well as bone stock rigs that have never left the pavement. I suspect the problem is more widespread than people realize. The vast majority of FJ owners probably never even open the hood. I don't have a bulge yet but I'm watching the area closely. I don't really care that much even if it does happen. Toyota will eventually figure out what's up and make it right.... I hope.

Finally getting my TRD to Hackensack N.J. for the field rep to inspect.
Should be an interesting encounter...

Don't care that much if it happens? That is crazy for a vehicle that costs that much. Guess I'll wait until the issue is resolved or get a Tacoma.

I love the FJ so much that even if this problem was seen on every rig, it isn't enough to outweigh the overall awesomeness of the truck. Once they figure out what is going on, I'm confident that some satisfactory solution will be reached. I have a tiny dent on the inner fender apron near the area in question. It has been there since I drove it off the lot...don't know how it happened. Anyhow, I went into the dealer and had them document it as a possible bulge so If I do ever develop a real bulge it will be covered under warranty. All cars have problems, especially new models. This problem doesn't impact the trucks ability to function. I just feel like a lot of people are acting like the sky is falling. I just don't think it is that big a deal. You're missing out on a SWEET rig if you let this deter you. I paid cash for my truck, and I don't plan on ever selling it. I can see how resale value could be a major consideration for those that will take that route. Otherwise I say get an FJ. You will love it.... potential bulges and all!
