(I posted this in the general tech page but have received no answers as of yet, and since the GX commonly suffers from stuck caliper pistons I’m assuming plenty of you have swapped your calipers out at this point)

I’m going to be installing new calipers on all four wheels of my GX 470.

I found good videos on how to flush and bleed, but I haven’t found a definitive answer on WHEN I should flush and bleed the brake system.

Should I do it as I go along, after each new caliper is installed? Wheel by wheel? Or should I install all four new calipers and then flush/bleed?

Doing it wheel by wheel as I go along would probably introduce less air into the system... I think? Being as each new caliper will just have a bunch of air inside it. I dunno... feedback appreciated as I’d like to keep the process as streamlined as possible.

Thanks!

You bleed when done, once you have closed the system back up. It is relatively simple. The GX has a split system front/rear. Bleed the rears with the power assist either through techstream or having someone cycling the brake pedal. Then the fronts using the old pump and hold method (2 person) or using a pressure or vacuum bleeder.

bleed after everything is installed. Rear pass/rear drive/front pass/front driver in that order. the rear will need to have the car in ON position. Just hold down the brake, no need to pump, and be mindful of the reservoir.

Brake fluid is cheap, I just replaced my calipers on my 80 and bled the system before and after replacing the calipers. My thinking is that I don't want to push old fluid through my new calipers. Just my two cents.

This is straight from the 2005 FSM. If you've never done it, it's intimidating but it really is this simple.

Materials:
1/4 ID (or 3/8 ID) CLEAR hose
10mm Wrench
Catch container like empty water bottle
Assistant to push the pedal.

EDIT: Note, it's easy to do this with wheels on if you can fit under your truck.
