Anyone installed anything besides the stock rock rails on their FJ yet? I was looking at the SideTrax nerf bars from RAM in California. Any opinions?

I don't know the specifics of those, but generally nerf bars don't hold up well under stress. If you're looking for protection, get rock rails (or sliders) that are designed protect the rig from side damage. IMHO, nerf bars are more for looks. I have the OEM rock rails which are easy to install. All-Pro Offroad has some nice rock rails too which bolt onto the frame (just like the OEMs). There may be others around.

Ditto on what Grey stated. But, if you are interested here is another make

I have seen the Westin Bars as well as the Ram. I don't need them to support the entire weight of the FJ (actually, only half the weight, but you get the point), but rather to protect from the occasional rock, shrub, cactus, etc that might otherwise damage the body. I don't plan on jumping her across creek beds or anything too wild. She will probably be spending most of her off-pavement time at work on construction sites and at play on beaches. Thanks for the info, though!
