Not quite sure what I am doing yet. but I want to get somewhere this year.

Thinking E150 or E250 conversion van (spray bombed smurf blue) and a tow dolly. If anyone sees a problem with said possible tow vehilce pipe up. 351 V8 auto, pimp chairs,

Need some cheap wheels to put some small road tires on to tow the 40 with.

15 Inchers, must fit disk brakes.

I could pick these up in Cbus in March.

Prefer just the wheels as they need to fit in my trunk.

Thanks gents.

Might have just found my tow rig. 1984 Short bus.

Price is right, 60 miles away.

351W motor. 109K original.....

Will know more in a day or so.

Warren,

tow dollies are okay..you have to disconnect your rear shaf though which isn't that big o' deal really.

But that bus is BADASS! Paint it yellow:flipoff2: You could set up some quarters in there for sure. Get you a big ol' air horn.

Warren,

IF you get the Buss you need Zebra Skin upholstery and not the good stuff the discount auto parts seat cover is what im talking about. Some Gold spay paint for the wheels and Crown Air Freshners then you are all set.

It was a big day for me when I did not have to ride on the short bus anymore.

Better check that things top speed, it might wind out at 55 :frown:

Simple rear end gear swap!!

Well, you've seen the van I drive. I don't see that short bus being much different other than it has way less miles than my cube van. If the price is right I say go for it. Parts are DIRT CHEAP for those when they need repairs too. I recommend you check with the insurance co. before you buy to make sure it's cool with them. Doubt it will be an issue though.

When I dolly my Cruisers around I only swap the front two tires so the straps will fit over the wheels. If the straps fit the tires you have you don't gotta worry about swappin'. For long distances I pull the rear driveshaft after the Cruiser is loaded onto the dolly. I'll also put the truck in 4WD and lock the front hubs in case something really bad happens. Don't need the Cruiser freewheeling down the road should it get loose of the dolly!

I am going to look at it tomorrow am. Will take some more photos, if it looks good, I will bring it home Friday.

known issues. Needs starter Solinoid. needs driver rotor, (current one is warped). Needs trans pan gasket. slow leak.

Few more pieces of info. Purchased from a church. C6 auto trany. Dana 70 rear.

Top speed might be 55 but thats cool with me.

yeah I know about the tow dolly things and drive shafts.

I need to get a reciever hitch for this bad boy.

Called my insurance agent. No problem. can run it as an RV, since it has no passenger rear seats, and has some cabinets on the inside.

We will see, need some paint schemes though. Wife already said no camo, and no more smurf blue.

I have been sitting on a spare kenwood CD player, big amp and some 12 inch subwoofers for about a decade from my 89 mercury cougar. Might have found a spot for them.

I have your cheap wheels

These came on my 60 and are now on the 40 until I replace them with new Black ones. They are 16" rims but fit the brakes and the the tires are good. Located South of Cleveland, OH $100 for all 4 with rims let me know.

Warren,

You could do Battle Ship Grey, with Black wheels. I think thats a pretty inconspicous color combo. Other suggestions would be as follows:

Black with a red stripe up the side like the A team van.

School Bus Yellow somehow seems approriate.

Your Favorite NCAA Colors would work but thats been done so many times.

A white bus with Cow Dots.

A lady bug paint scheme Do the ford part black and do the bus part red with black dots.

I'm just trying to make some fun suggestions.

MJM, Sounds good. I will let you know a bit closer to the trip, hopefully we can meet somewhere on the way back up.

update

Drove the Bus today, 100% pimp.

Inside is near perfect. Gotta love aluminum. All the lights work, (kiddie unloading ones too) and it even has a rear heater that works.

The transmission fluid was pouring out of the tail piece, Long story short, there was a trans shop 2 miles from the sellers house. He is dropping bus off there tomorrow.

The guy will drop the pan to make sure nothing is fawked up. Seal it up and put on the new piece if needed for 300 bucks, comes with a warrenty and flush and fill 16 quarts of ATF, yep 16 quarts.

if the trans is toast, I am out a hundred and have piece of mind I did the right thing by passing.

Needs a front rotor. Some misc wiring, muffler, Small stuff.

Should be a breeze to put a hitch on the back Bumper is nice and low.

Oh yea, Its 100% pimp.

Warren,,

That's fawkin' bad ass man...without a doubt. I envision shag carpet...

Thinking about running a keg tap through one of the sides....

Hopefully the trans checks out okay.

Tap would be sweet! Awning off the side, propane grill hookup, water, big rack on the roof.

Time to become a wheelin' Hobo..damn that'd be nice.

Trans guy will get to it on Tuesday Morning, i am hoping to be present, If all goes well I will bring it back by the end of the week, since the sellers in Florida on vacation.

The cost of this fine unit is under 800 bucks:) So I cant get too crazy with stuff. Want to have the guy put in an extra trans cooler. and maybe a nacho machine. This is depleating the rear locker fund for the 40.

My fingers are crossed Warren..hope this works out for you. The rear locker will always be there but this rig may not.

Nacho machine...Sign me up..

Ya know, it might be possible to cut the back wall open and drive an FJ40 up into the back of the bus.

height could be a problem. Hafta fold down the WS and have a low cage. Or maybe a set of bald, stock size 215/75R15 tires.

Q: Who rides in the back of the short bus?
A: Warren's cognitively challenged FJ40.
