Upon removing my carpet I found some small rust holes on the drivers side next to the large access hole. I chiseled up some of the tar and there were more holes under there. I was disappointed for this is the only rust that I have found. I checked the same spot on the passengers side and it is perfect. I have run a hose all over and can't find out how water is getting in there. The worst of the rust is on the backside of the metal. I think it is somehow running down the seam that is on the right in the second picture. I also went underneath and removed some of the undercoating where that pocket is welded on and there is rust all around that seam also. Does anyone have any ideas to where the water is coming from? What is the best way to fix the rust? It doesn't seam that cutting it out would be very easy without taking the body off because it mounts to the frame right there.

Short of cutting and patching, sanding what you can reach and painting with POR-15 or a similar product is about all you can do. Too bad it's such a tough place to access. Do you know if there's ever been an exhaust leak under there? That could explain the rust problem. The frame looks kinda rusty down there too. If you've plugged the access hole and let the rig sit out in a heavy rain without discovering any leak, well maybe it's not leaking. Perhaps someone spilled some battery acid there-who knows?

The access hole just gets you into the void. That's not the frame, it's the bottom of the void. The frame is on the other side of the sheet metal. The bolt facing down is the one that goes through the body and bolts to the frame. I've inspected the frame and it's fine. I really want to fine out where the water came from so I can fix it and put the interior back together.
