Hello
Trying to help a friend remotely diagnose a front end mystery vibration in their 3rd gen Tacoma.
Question:
On the 3rd Gen Does the front DL still spin even when in 2WD

The vibration stays somewhat constant and doesn’t appear to be relevant to speed other than it’s not noticeable in 1-2nd gear.
The Tacoma has a crappy 1.5-2” lift

The change in CV angle with a lift will aggravate and eventually sling the needle bearing apart happened to both my second gen and third gen tacoma. there is a kit made to stop the vibration yours sounds similar i’d go down to see if there’s okay in those cv axles

So the CV axles and the DL do spin during 2WD?

yes they do! and they will cause that vibration especially with a bad lift it will happen to any tacoma with a lift it’s really not a bad job i can send part dwtails

ECGS replaces the needle bearing with a clamshell bushing to fix that problem amazing part haven’t had to e issue ever since i replaced it. i don’t think that part above is for your year or if they are even year specific so i’d look into it

the best way to check is to see if the cv axle has play, second best way is to throw the puppy into 4wheel drive (ON A STRAIGHT ROAD) i know toyota says not to turn the system on if not in slipping conditions but you can test it in a straight road. if the vibration goes away in 4WD that’s your needle bearing.

Thank you for the information!
