I am new to Land Cruisers; two weeks ago I purchased a 1998 series 100. I also bought the three-volume Shop Manual for this vehicle, including the Electrical Wiring Diagram volume.

Now my question: Under the hood, above the right wheel-well and in the vicinity of the Power Steering reservoir, I find three ‘floating’ connectors---one black with 2 pins, one black with 3 pins and one gray with two pins. They appear to be part of a factory installed harness but connect to nothing. Can anyone tell me the purpose of these mysterious connectors?

I spent several hours going through the shop manuals and can find no reference to these connectors. I also ran a covert mission to a Toyota dealership, feigning interest in a 2000 LC on their lot. The mysterious connectors were present in this vehicle, and just dead-ended like in mine. Of course the salesman could not tell me their purpose.

I originally thought they might be related to the rear air-conditioner that I do not have. But the wiring diagram volume includes this feature and indicates no electrical module in the engine compartment.

My curiosity has been aroused---I would not like to think I am missing something important

That's where the VHC (vehicle hight control) goes on the Lexus LX470.

Yep. My 99 has them too. Look under the hood of a 470 when you get a chance. Congratulations on your purchase. I hope it is everything you hoped it would be.

And welcome to the board.

Welcome to the board. We can always use more people willing to actually read the FSM and delve into the diagrams.

Thanks everybody, for the information. I guess I'm a little surprised the Toyota wiring manual doesn't show these connectors, marked as NC (not connected).

My impression of the LC is favorable, so far---and my wife loves it. I've only had it in the dirt twice, but it is sure an improvement over my old Explorer. Once I gain some confidence in this particular rig (after I find out, and fix, what troubles I bought along with the vehicle) I plan to see just what it will do off road.

Again, thanks. Also thanks for the warm welcome.
