anyone got a tap and die set they would be willing to let me borrow when the rest of my parts arrive this week? I need to drill and tap a hole for a 3/8 bolt.... They dont appear to be cheap items if you get MAC or Craftsman even.....though Northern Tool has a couple sets that appear to be okay for the occasional use it would see with me. Like this is first time ever needing one myself...LOL

I have tire swingout, jerry can swingout, hi lift mount, axe mount, shovel mount and accessory rail so I can add lights or top rack for a cooler or something later. I dont have the hoist as that is something Chris did for himself since he is paralyzed...

A couple parts were lost from box by FED EX when someone cut it open to look around so once those replacements arrive I will be installing her on my rig...hopefully this weekend.

What exactly do you need to tap a 3/8" hole in that you can't put a washer/locknut behind?

...where I'm coming from:
My AP front bumper came with tapped 3/16" thick backing plates for the light hoop. That was a waste of effort on AP's part! The backing plate holes didn't match the template that they provided for me to drill into the main bumper. (Guess I should not have assumed things would match!) So I just drilled the backing plate threads out and put stainless hardware on the inside. Also, now I don't have to worry about bolts siezing up in that backing plate, if I ever need to remove.

Bottom line is just think through the install to see if it's REALLY the best way, and don't assume printed directions are the Bible.

I will have to look but looks like want a hole in bottom of box frame...since bolt wont go all the way through the tapping is way to secure it...for the two frame supports that help hold the weight of swingout when loaded more securely.

If indeed going thru the box frame, I'd do what I could to drill through bottom and top of section and run an extended bolt all the way thru. Just tapping the bottom surface will not be solid enough, especially if the bumper takes any solid hits, but I know you wouldn't do that with your bumper :D.

My rear bumper uses the stock locations to attach to the box frame (where the tow point was bolted) and the weldnuts that were inside the frame have popped loose. So now I can't even take the bolts out that are in there... without some surgery. However, my bumper is bolted in several other key places and welded to the rub rails, so I know it ain't going anywhere for now.

Just passing on my experience - wished I'd done mine differently knowing what I know now.

The main supports go through like you mention....these are secondary braces so not sure exactly how much trauma they would experience given their location and design. I will definitely think about it when I do the install...hopefully Saturday

I should have my parts that were missing thanks to FedEx tomorrow but if not I am going to install it anyhow...as the parts missing are accessories not the major parts. So if anyone wants to help me tackle this...be at my place before lunch. I will need to go out in morning to buy a tap and die set so I can tap a 3/8x18 hole for a bolt in the install...and I dont own any tap and die sets already.
