Well, hello. I'm Lauren, I'm 16, and I got my driver's license about a week ago. I always thought my first car would be a small sedan. I learned to drive on my mom's Prius. (I love that car.) However, a few weeks ago my dad decided that it was time to give up the El Camino, so he got the idea of getting a used SUV and making it my car, and his car about two days out of the month so he could tow a trailer. The idea sounded good to me. I had my eyes set on a early 2000's Highlander, but then he found a 2000 4Runner for $8,000, 130k, great condition, from a private seller. When we went to test drive it today, I liked the look, the power, and the height. I was unsure if I wanted to commit to driving something with a truck like feel, something I'm not used to at all. With the convincing of my calm mom, dad who loved it, and my boyfriend who's pretty much in love with his 80 series Land Cruiser, I gave the "what the hell, go for it" sigh. I'll get used to the way it drives; at least that's what I'm told by the men. Let's hope. Hello, my first car! :)

Welcome Lauren and congrats on your purchase. You will love it! My wife and I just got a 97 4 runner. We are very happy with it.

Congrats Lauren. If the 4 Runner has too much of a truck feel, could be the previous owner put on suspension that was way too stiff. This could be something as simple as Rancho 5,000 shocks (the arm pit of all shock absorbers). Problem is , for far too many years the Off Road Industry had "army tank of the brain", and built their accessory equipment accordingly. There's hope, check out several websites, specifically the ones where the companies have been involved in off road racing (which requires alot of ultra soft suspension travel) Pardon my sales pitch, but a good place to start is here:

Hi Lauren... well I think the 4runner was an excellent choice, of course I am likely biased though!:D
I might have been of sound mind before the mud gods got ahold of me and did whatever it is that they do.
Enjoy the banter on here cause it stretches from serious to ridiculous.. haha:cheers:
