Just picked just picked up this 85 bj73 with a 3b diesel. A few cosmetic issues but runs like a champ

Had a couple questions.
At idle oil pressure gauge reads very low. Possibly an issue with the gauge or should I be worried? I can see oil is getting to the head through the filler

I’ve seen 70 series grill with the “Toyota” script vs mine with the logo. Are they interchangeable?

Planning on driving it in the winter in New England so trying to prevent rust as much as possible. Was planning on doing a fresh por 15 coat underneath and fluid film or something similar. Any spots to pay special attention to?

Thanks in advance

Oil pressure gauges seem to give low readings for most of us.

I removed most of trim panels to spray "cavity wax" into doors and inside fenders.
Also used the long spray wands to get goop inside windshield frame.

It doesnt really matter if the pressure is low at idle, they only need a few psi. What it does at at road speeds is what matters. There are tests out lined in the workshop manual.

yep, the grill mounting points on the radiator supports are the same, over here the first 73'/75's had chrome or black steel grilles with separate Toyota badge, post 90' they had a plastic grey grills on the HZj75's with Toyota moulded into them, and then the grill with the mexican hat symbol (which your's may be) were on the later HZJ79's

I think Cruiserparts.net were selling the TOYOTA grilles.
I have had about 80% success with them, others have had different experiences.

Toyota also had a 3.4 L (3389 cc) inline-six gasoline engine from 1937 to 1947 that was also called the B engine. The earlier engine was used in early Toyota cars and trucks and in the first version of the Land Cruiser when it was known as the BJ Jeep.

Most guys mention panels, but I tried to spray in the windscreen frame as well . Mind you, the frame does have two holes at each bottom corner, so you might end up with wax comming out as well. to spray, I used the holes where the sun visors attach to the frame, using a 50 cm extension nozzle hose..

next year I intend to take the FRP out and look for rust underneath and spray again.....cause rust "never sleeps"....:)
