put a strait edge on the front and back of the axle housing, also compare up and down, those stanped housings can flex and bend slightly without being obvious, I think it takes a much harder hit than you describe but look into it anyway, it will play hell with seals if it is bent would be nice to get a brand new complete OEM front axle from drive plate to drive plate

Well, the adjuster came today and pronounced it totaled. The value was deemed at $11,100 with a salvage/buyback value of $2200. After several negotiations with my father regarding keeping it or not, he decided to let me have the Cruiser and he would pocket the rest of the insurance money(we paid 9k for it last year, so he gets his money back out of it. My 21st birthday is on Thursday and I desperately need a set of wheels, so this makes everyone happy). The adjuster priced everything at new cost from the dealer, and when I mentioned that the knuckles were leaking he added on the cost of a new axle to the estimate. From what I can tell the axle is straight, but their policy is to estimate on the safe side rather than underestimate and then have to cut another check. I think I can repair all of the damage for around $3k which means I'll have a nice locked 80 for about $3k out of pocket. :D I'm a very happy guy right now. Just thought I'd update the post and fill everyone in on what happened.

Ary,
have the mechanic look at the front diff as well. with enough force to bend the drag link the foce will sometimes travel to the diff as well. not likely here but possible.

I most certainly will. Better safe than sorry. I'm working on getting a draglink so that it's driveable and then I will be concerned with long-term damages as well as cosmetic damages. Thanks
